I'm very interested in this, do you have any teaser or preview of the new material? How much of the book is devoted to rules vs the area itself? I've been looking for some good d20m setting type locations, does this fit the bill?

While the rules are of course first rate (sheer genius in fact... written by some guy... oh yeah it was me), they dont start until almost 50 pages into the book... there's a lengthy description of the city itself.

Im reading through my comp copy now and it looks great.

But again I helped write it so take that as you will :)

The hth combat rules in the book are based off of RPGObjects' Blood and Fists book. The system is the same, so buying both books (Haven and Blood and Fists) will give you a ton more options, but the system in Haven is complete in its own right.

Nuclear - in a word - no. Haven d20 is a d20 modern product, with no leftovers of the Top Secret First Edition feel of classic Haven.

I picked up Haven this summer (I used to boycott LPJ's stuff on principle because of the amount of spam I received from him over the years because of my CyberPunk website), and was pleasantly surprised. In fact, I loved it - I'm a HUGE fan of Top Secret (not that Top Secret/S.I. travesty) and Louis has a -VISION- that stands out throughout the product that made me excited again, and wanting to play it. Except of course that my gaming group like d20 and HATE Top Secret, and Haven was really a simplified version of Top Secret at heart. Hell, I finally stopped boycotting LPJDesign after getting these books, and started talking to Louis directly about the setting and material.

Now, the d20 edition lacks the heavy-handed and moody graphic design of the original, but the writing style is a lot clearer (Chuck writes much clearer rules than Louis), and the graphic design is still good, if not as moody, dark and over-the-top as the graphic design in the original.

The book is a reissue of the original edition, but d20, in most respects other than graphic design. The setting is the core of the book, not the mechanics.

Okay, assuming I see some good reviews, this is going on my pdf wishlist. Any plans for converting some of the other stuff to d20m or other product support?

Totally agree... the setting is the star of the book and my #1 design goal was to stay out of the setting's way whenever possible using understated mechanics that left Haven itself the most important part of the book.

I believe Louis already has some d20 Modern adventures out set in Haven.

I ran Shots Rang Out yesterday night and this morning, and it's very good. However, they're a bit railroady (more than a bit, actually) and you'll need to do the NPCs yourselves instead of using the ones that came with the adventures. (They have stats all over the place, can't seem to decide what level they should be compared to the party level, don't have occupations, talents or bonus feats, etc.)
