luck in your campaign

Let's say that the God/dess of Luck decides to take a little vacation from your campaign world, as the chaotic types are known to do.
Now luck is out of whack, so to speak. People are really unlucky, or fantastically lucky.

What, exactly, would you change in the way you run your game to make this apparent to your pc's?

Before I put them in the way of any life or death situations, I'd be sure to have many NPCs tell tales of luck or bad fortune so that they'd be well aware of the unusual circumstances in advance.

Hm. Here's a simple idea.

On each die roll, there's an additional modifer. 50% chance it's a +X, 50% chance it's a -X. X being determined by how extreme you want this luck or unluck to be. X=5 would probably do the job for low to mid level characters.
