How Would YOU Create a Lycanthrope Player Character?

I wouldn't but if I were to I'd make levels of werewolf a unique class based on barbarian or just a barbarian subclass similar to the path of the berserker. Their rage is what turns them furry and gives them all their benefits. Probably give them an unarmed attack and bite as the extra attack, but turning into a werewolf should come at a cost like with barbarian's frenzy . In other words if you want the benefits there has to be some sort of cost to it.
This is pretty much what the Path of the Beast does, in "Tasha's."

Good call here! That's probably the easiest, that or the blood Hunter since iirc one BH subclass literally turns you into a werewolf complete with resistance...

I personally think a combination of adjustments is the way forward to cover the basis. With minimal changes.

  • Custom species to give Darkvision, perhaps base 13 armour level when unarmoured, and the ability to speak with animals of their type.
  • Subclasses - to add some werewolf punch with some werewolf related class abilities
  • Feat tree to fill the gaps. I would have an origin feat to change into hybrid form with later feats to take on full animal form, summon wolves etc.

I personally wouldn’t mess to much with base class abilities. There is a lot of freedom in class that it would be a shame for them to lose.

I wouldn’t let them pass lycanthropy on. I also wouldn’t give them damage immunity it’s too powerful already.

Voted for “other.” I’d create a custom curse with a mix of benefits and drawbacks, the most notable of which being forced transformation under certain conditions (e.g. the full moon), and restrictions around available actions while so transformed, such as having to attack the nearest creature.
