Lycanthrope's don't heal

Alternate Form (Su): A lycanthrope can shift into animal form as though using the polymorph spell on itself, though its gear is not affected, it does not regain hit points for changing form , and only the specific animal form indicated for the lycanthrope can be assumed. It does not assume the ability scores of the animal, but instead adds the animal’s physical ability score modifiers to its own ability scores. A lycanthrope also can assume a bipedal hybrid form with prehensile hands and animalistic features.

So why the change from 3.0? I hadn't noticed it before. I was checking the "Black Fury" adventure from the Silver Marches and when checking for changes (werebears have hybrid forms now :] ) I noticed they don't auto heal anymore when shifting.

By the way, that adventure really got tougher with the new DR rules and the stacking of animal Hit dice with class dice (I spent a lot of time redoing the numbers).

You could also ask why lycanthropes do not have any fast healing or regeneration, since the classic examples (werewolves) surely do in most cases. :)

Well, I don't know.

IIRC, the change is because the lycanthrope's CON score is the same in all forms in 3.5, while they differ in 3.0.

In 3.0, you may shapechange, find yourself with too little CON, lose a few HPs, and pass out. :\

Healing on a change was too nice. The lycanthrope fights for a few rounds, flees, and then changes form multiple times. It comes back and repeats the process. Eventually any party that cannot kill it before it can flee, or can themselves flee out of its reach, will run out of resources and die.

Thanee: just desccribe a lycanthrope's DR as wounds closing even while they are being made, and you'll have a pseudo fast healing effect.

I thought this was DR x/silver. The lycanthrope heals a portion of any attack not done with a silver weapon.

It is. The blurb on DR (in the MM or DMG, can't recall ATM) talks about describing wounds that don't bypass DR as sealing or closing as soon as they are dealt.
