[M&M 2e] Red Sands Chronicles. (OOC)

Deezy related what seemed to her to be the most important bits first.

I figured I'd give others a chance to react after that.

Relax...there is more coming. :)

Having a bit of trouble trying to figure out an alt power power feat that does what I'm thinking of (namely, encases the subject in ice). Paralyze sounds like it should be right, but it's a touch range power and takes either a really bad save roll or two attacks to actually paralyze. Giving it range, etc as a stunted Alt on the temp control array leaves it with something like an 11 DC. Not likely to do anything but have the action-limited guard use his action to raise the alarm.

So then I remembered that in M&M, it's not always the name, but the effect you should remember. Perusing, I started thinking a 'possession'-model power, instead, was more what I was after: one of the flaws is 'single command.' A ranged "don't move a muscle" seemed to fit that idea. But even with throwing on Distracting and increased actions, the DC winds up at around 15.

Thoughts, anyone? I can have Brian make his Flash Freeze attack, but chances are it'll take more than one attack to take down the guard. I suppose I could hope that Brian's Subtle feat means we get that extra round while the guard tries to figure out what's going on?

I'd post all this in character, but Seif and Brian are always butting heads so much, I wanted some 'character personality free' feedback, since I, the player, not Brian, am having the conundrum.

To freeze someone in ice, I'd say Snare.

Snares even create a physical object that can be broken, that restrains the target. And it's ranged at 2pp/rank.

Alternatively, Create Object could work.

Those are probably the less expensive of your options; petrification and transformation would be the most expensive options you could try (the target would truly be flash frozen as long as the power is in effect). Also, remember you could also up the range of touch attacks to make them perception range which again bumps up their price considerably.

I guess my only question is, which of those options keep him from talking? Snare and Create both get him stuck, but don't seem to have options that stop the guard from just yelling 'hey, someone just trapped me!' Logically, Create ought to allow some manner of that if the object is solid and covers the body, but I'm missing it if it's there.

Transform sounds okay, but since this is an alt of the Environment array, I'm limited in the points I can spend, and I don't think I can hobble it enough to get the ranks to freeze a whole person if I read the power right.

Let me know if the Create can work to cut off cries for help, then I'll decide one way or the other. It's looking like I'll probably just try to flash freeze and hope he's confused long enough (since he'll be unable to pinpoint a cause due to Subtle) to knock him out at this point.

Hm. There aren't many/any ways to -specifically- silence someone outside of Transform...HOWEVER, I'd say that silencing someone would be a plausible 'side effect' of a Suffocate that was described as ice forming over someone's mouth and nose.

Sort of like how an attack described as Fire can have the side effect of igniting flammable materials, attacks can have effects that go slightly beyond their actual power descriptions as long as they're appropriate to the actual manifestation of the ability (ie - an ice attack can freeze water, an EMP Nullify could mess up compasses).

With Relique's permission, you might just extend the categories covered by the +1 Block Senses Snare extra to include gagging the guy. Or link Concealement (Hearing) to the main power, maybe with the -1 Blending flaw if that's not too corny (and expensive with UOO add on). :)

Just freaking kill him!!! hehehe.

Gah! If you're back, I don't think we even need to talk about this. Sahid has Snare, Suffocate, and Create Object powers already without having to stunt like Brian was going to have to. :P

I had Brian allude to that back IC here when Seif first asked him about freezing someone, so I think that covers "the Ottoman is with us," yes? Like I mentioned then, Brian could use his general environmental control to drop the temp, which also gives some reaction penalties to the victim and may provide an 'excuse' if someone notices the guy frosted over.
