M&M Iron Age

I'm looking forward to it too. I used to game with Seth before he left Madison for western skies. He and Jon used to work at one of the best local comic stores around back in the early 1990s. They really know their stuff. It should be excellent work.

We did push Iron Age back into the Fall. We will have Hero High for GenCon, and possibly Paragons and A More Perfect Union as well.

Oooohhh I hope "A More Perfect Union" is there. I really can't wait to see that one. :D

Hero High is already on my buy list....

Paragons has been pushed back to a maybe? Dang! Steve Kenson made it seem pretty definite in another thread on this board...

...here's hoping you have it done by Gen Con. I want to buy that book!

That is the plan, I'm just be careful in what I promise because you never know what can happen once something goes to print. Once we get confirmation from our various printers on when things we'll ship, we'll announce what's debuting at GenCon for sure.

Read an interview with the authors on the M&M site. Very impressed by their knowledge of the period and now totally jazzed by this book, which I didn't know existed prior to this thread. Will definitely buy it when it comes out.

I own M&M but haven't run it yet. Thinking about a Team:Achilles/Marshal Law type game where the PCs are an anti-superhero squad. They would have no flashy powers - no energy blasts or flight - and have to use advanced slug throwers, mines and the like to take down their targets. One possibility would be to set it in the 50s and they could kill analogs of DC Silver Age heroes. Shoot Supergirl for being a communist and stuff, totally grotesque, but in a sense very Iron Age.

You might want to take a look at Agents of Freedom as well. There is a lot of good "super" agent advice in the book as well as a lot of nice new Equipment usable for that type of character.

For the uninitiated n00bs (like me) can someone give me the lowdown on M&M in general?

Cheers - T
The game is OGL and fast-paced. It does not have any of the standard d20 conventions. There are no Classes, no Levels, no Hit Points, no AoO, etc. The game is Point and Effects-based.

The game uses an innovative Damage Save mechanic and only requires a single d20 to play. Basically you roll To Hit and if you succeed the target makes one of four different types of Saves to determine the degree of Damage or the Power's effect. So shooting someone would probably require a Toughness Save whereas using a Mental Power on them would require a Will Save. Combats are very quick but still give you some degree of tactical feel. I often describe the game as a fusion of Marvel Saga, HERO, and d20.

You can download a PDF of the entire first chapter of the book from here along with some examples and adventures. You can see some Marvel and DC character write-ups using the system here.

If you need more information please feel free to ask.
