[M&M] White Supremacist Hero(es)?

On the general board Wombat started the following topic:

[WAY OT] More gnomes?

The following is an expert from the page he linked:

Do you endorse "theft" and "tresspassing" to liberate enslaved Garden Gnomes.

We wish that Garden Gnome slavery did not exist. We understand why some would support all means necessary to stop it. Our preference is for peacful negotiation with the Gnome Slave Owner and political pressure on the Government, Corporations and other power brokers of the world.

A bit silly? Yes, undoubtedly.

However it is exactly the type of response the white supremicist "hero" would come up with.

[Useless trivia]The M&M supplement Freedom City has a white supremacist villain, the "White Knight."[/useless trivia]

OK, this tack may get a little distasteful for the GM. But, some white supremacists really do strongly believe in their views. And, they have some reasonable-sounding arguments to back them up. They range from claiming that all "lesser" races are descended from the son of Noah that was banished to quoting studies that "prove" that minorities are less capable. Some of them even freely admit that black people are better athletes. But, they are less intelligent, less moral, and their rightful place is one of servitude. If you play up the "this guy truly believes he's on the side of right" angle, it can be kind of odd. A little research can give you most of the common arguments pretty quickly (though it can get you on some scary mailing lists if you're not careful).

The interesting twist is that he can sincerely respect a black hero, especially if that hero is a fighter. "Well, naturally you excel at hand-to-hand combat. Your people are still so close to your native roots. You're only one degree removed from apes, after all, and gorillas are certainly fearsome fighters." The fact that such a line can be delivered with absolute sincerity and respect will make many people just stop and blink for a while. Of course, the gaping will just reinforce the "fact" that your brain doesn't work as quickly.

The trick to making this work is to give him a lot of intelligent-sounding logic to back up his beliefs. If you, as a person, have a knack for logic, you might even be able to tie up the heroes so that they can't actually come up with a good counter-argument. That will frustrate them more than a villain who's just super-strong and super-invulnerable.

All in all, this is an interesting, and brave, exercise. I wish you luck.

Dr. Knox Pooley from the TV Show "Wiseguy"...

The old television show "Wiseguy" had JUST the sort of character I think you're looking for (played by Senator Fred Dalton Thompson) ... what he did was preach racial hatred and self-improvement without directly mentioning violence. The character is the consummate huckster who worked scrupulously within the confines of the law.

Hope that helps...

I have that product on order. Should be here in about a week. :)

Quite. I am rather familiar with white supremacist literature. University research, not personal experience. And you're right. There is a horrible logic to much of said literature. Unfortunately, too many people mistake logical for truthful or factual, forgetting that is possible to formulate logical (but invalid) arguments from any number of false premises.

As G. K. Chestertoon observed (I paraphrase): The problem with a madman isn't that he's illogical. It's that he's nothing but logical.

I remember that show, but not the character. Of course, Wiseguy was never really on my must watch list. Still, thanks for the tip. :)

Champions' old 4th edition supplement "Allies" had a character called "The Aryan", aka Johann Weiss, a man who'd been created and raised by a colony of expatriate Nazis in the hopes of creating a new Furher. Unfortunetly for them, Johann had developped as a morally aware man who believed that persuading the "lesser races" by force as in WWII was a failed concept and that the best way to convince the world of the rightness of National Socialism was to do it as a Hero, becoming a crime-fighter with a controversial political agenda.

Basically, he's Captain America with a firm belief in the positive aspects of Nazism as opposed to a belief in equality. An otherwise nice guy, except that his ultimate goal is a world where a minority chosen by accident of birth lords it over the rest of humanity with no hope of advancement for those of the
"wrong race". A Rational and Sane facist.

Hey...

You should have an entire super-team of super-supremecists, headquarted in the Hall of Purity....

And they could do battle against the differently meta-abled villians {???} from the Legion of Tolerance....

"Oh no, its the Integration Alert! Somewhere our precious bodily fluids are being diluted. Get Wunder Frau, White Bred and the The Solution down here on the double. And would someone please clean up after Dog Uber? He's made a mess again."

Of course, that would be silly...

Building off what Lone Wolf said...

The anti Captain America thing works great. He could have been created by Nazis even during the war, but too late for him to have any impact.

So he's been giving his mental conditioning, but has really grown up in a world where the Nazis lost, where the ideals he was created to represent are mostly dead.

Obviously, he should be the 'perfect' aryan himself. Blonde hair, blue eyes, with an impeccable build. Powers would probably make him much like an iconic hero: Super speed, super strength. Maybe he also has the ability to see through people's genetic code to instantly determine whether they are pure aryan, of hebrew descent, etc, etc.

In today's world, he upholds the law with an iron fist (upholding the Nazi ideal of a heavily ordered state). He knows he can't pursue his other goals, like the elimination of non-whites, Jews, Catholics, homosexuals, etc. So mostly he speaks out against them, in the most propaganda-smooth like way possible, seemingly compassionate. (although of course, utterly not so)

He could have any number of white power or german names... The Lion, Bismark, etc, etc.
