[M&M2e] Red Sands Chronicles

Brian Shaughnessy

"If we want to be ready for an ambush, I think that means we need the big iron," Brian says, indicating Deezy's power armor. "But maybe we can split the difference in terms of stealth. Deezy's going to draw attention in that no matter what. If we can use that as a distraction for some of the rest of us to sneak around at a discreet distance, maybe we can catch anyone before they spring something, or if not we'll be closer than they expect to lend a hand."

Interlude...

Lady Raputina shoves Seif then spits on the ground. "How dare you even think of defile my body with your diseased prole lips?" She sneered, "Thanks to your lechery, you will be lucky if I even consider showing you and your cohorts any restraint the next time we meet. So if I were you, I'd pray, to whatever idols you street urchins pray to, that we won't cross paths once you return to Victoria Town."
Seif looked down on himself with some surprise, then laughed, eyes intense : "No maiming? No strike at eyes or groin? I did not know you cared so much already."

"As you wish. Klatta and myself will take any trap makers by storm; you and the Ottoman will be our shadows under cover of mist." He bounded up to the Beast's mighty shoulder, sword drawn, steam building at the small of his back. "Full speed ahead?" he suggested.

<Response Deezy?>

[Sblock=OOC]Ready action: Perception on full, Deflect any attack coming his or Deezy's way.[/sblock]

"Hold on a sec," Deezy advised...then stooped the war machine over to scrape the heavy leather straps off of its feet, since it no longer needed to be secured to the flatbed.

Then she asked, "This is okay right?" Assuming no one said nay, there was a hiss of steam and hydraulics as the Metal Beast stepped down off the platform, then began clomping at a brisk walking pace towards the town's main center.

"Keep an eye out for rocket lances and that kind of thing," Deezy advised. "They'll wait for us to go by, then shoot from behind. Pinger's not much good in a city. I'll switch to heatscope and see if anything's still warm around here..."

(OOC - Scanning with Infravision to look for heat sources as we go.)

"Do you wish the cover now?" asks the Ottoman before moving on. If that's a yes, he'll quickly summon the water from the surrounding air and create the already familiar cloud of steam. Otherwise, he'll go along, keeping his eyes peeled for trouble.

Good thought. "Lord Burroughmeister," called back Seif, one hand holding on for dear life, "I suggest you raise the airship! Call us if you see anything trying to sneak up on us!" A pause. "or on you."

"Trouble with the mist is it makes it hard for us to spot others, as well. I think we should hold off until we need it; if we hit that ambush it could be a handy surprise, or when we finally have to cross that wide swath with no cover around the settlement."

Brian joins the Ottomon following the Metal Beast at a discreet distance, trying to remain unseen even as he turned his special senses to their surroundings trying to see dangers before they appeared.

OOC: +13 Stealth and +10 Notice (Brian has infravision, as well)

INTERLUDE
"No maiming? No strike at eyes or groin? I did not know you cared so much already."

"I don't. However, I am smart enough not to try to provoke a savage, like yourself, into acting out their basest desires..." she paused, "Especially when they tell their caravan to travel on without them."

The group cautiously enters into the ruins as the caravan's airship is silently launched. As you advance toward's the distant settlement, you can hear the sound of movement all around you.

[sblock=Deezy and Brian]
You are able to see 8 heat signatures moving around through the rubble around you.

The heat signatures appears to be vaguely human in form and seem to move in a hunched if not animal-like manor. You watch them move through the ruins you can't help to feel as if they as slowly stalking the group and trying single out targets. However, they appear to be keeping their distance from the Metal Beast.
[/sblock]

[sblock=Sahid]You see the shimmering of a distant mirage move between the ruin walls, reminding you, briefly of earth. Then you realize, that the ground is too cold to cause the type of Mirage you saw...[/sblock]

[sblock=Seif]
Seif thought he saw some movement between some of the partially destroyed walls about 50 ft away, but you are not sure what you saw since the air seemed to shimmered for a brief moment. [/sblock]

After a few minutes, Deezy's voice emerges from a quick burst of static on the comms.

"Guys, I'm tracking heat sources in the buildings. Looks like...eightish. They're keeping pace with us...they look aggressive, but they don't like the Beast. Every time I swing around in one of their directions they go to ground in a hurry. I'd recommend everyone stick close and not wander."

There's a pause, then she muses, "Kind of a funny shape on 'em too," absently, as if unaware the mic was still on. Then the channel clears.

"I am smart enough not to try to provoke a savage, like yourself, into acting out their basest desires..." she paused, "Especially when they tell their caravan to travel on without them."
The desert man slashed that away without a second thought: “I conquer what I want, my Rasputina. And what I want is you. All of you. Pity there is no time.” He reached down to the burnished handle of his gun and, seeing her tense, eyes widening: “A loan, heirloom for heirloom.” Pointing it up he flipped open the barrel, and the next sound was the tinkling of six shells bouncing off the rocky ground.

“Did I mention that I am a prince of my people?” Teeth bared, he carefully laid down the revolver amidst the scattered shells, turned and just walked away.

[sblock=OOC]If you remember, the revolver was a coming of age gift from his father, the only thing he has left of him. Seif’s name is burned into the wooden handle.

Seif is keeping all his senses trained backwards. If she manages to start shooting at him before he can climb up on his camel, he’ll try to deflect with his swords. If he’s already mounted, he’ll just accellerate full speed for the retreating caravan.[/sblock]

"Possible 50 feet to the left," confirmed Seif. “Be ready to hose that sector down on my signal.” And with a whuff of steam and a downwards jerk of the Beast’s shoulder, Seif went flying in a high parabolic arc.

[sblock=Actions]Jump 100' to a spot on a crumbling roof (or the corner of two walls might work too), overflying the spot where he saw movement. Notice +10 to spot, Knowledge Desert or Survival to ID if he spots them.[/sblock]

Seif's gut clenched tight on Deezy's last comment, one thought foremost in his mind: mutants! But too late now: he is already airborne, hanging upside down in the middle of his flip, as a matter of fact, looking right down the enemy’s gullet...
