[M&M2e] Red Sands Chronicles

OOC: Jkason, you know.. your ideal how the sensor works sounds so much more interesting then what I had thought up. So I'll use it. :D

OOC: Huzzah! :D

After completing what was asked of him, the Ottoman replies back. "Silverston, do you hear me? Silverston! What's going on on your side?"

Brian swears under his breath.

"He just walked us through shutting off their primary air supply, which was already ridiculously thin with all the aether," Brian realizes. "We don't get this done and turn the ventilation back on asap, we may not have anyone to save."

He looks around frantically, trying to locate the valves they need to open, and rushing to do so once he finds them.

She shrugged, then looked around, waving a hand through the air. "It IS kind of funny to think it's all around us and we can't even see it."
"Evil smoke," corrected the desert man. Memory, the hard clenching of one fist. "You will know it when you see it."

A very sheltered life then, probably never left her birth town before now... In many ways, she reminded him of his younger sister... When she was six.

"Shouldn't they have checked back by now?" He almost -almost- asked Silverstone if *both* of them were needed here, but the wisdom of bitter experience quickly prevailed.

"Be calm. Be methodical," advised Seif, like a verbal cold shower.

OOC: Think of it like a long distance +5 Help Another. :)
He (and Deezy?) waited for their signal, hands poised over their respective controls... 'Not before the blockage is disengaged', is what the maintenance man had said.

[sblock=OOC]I'm assuming Brian and Sahid's intercom is in the same "hands-free" mode as Seif and Deezy's here.[/sblock]

"Silverston, do you hear me? Silverston! What's going on on your side?"
"Too much aether.. lungs burning.."

Brian and Sahid spots the final valves and begins to spin the valves. After several dozen turns, they hear a loud clank and the valve becomes tight.

"Shouldn't they have checked back by now?"

I'm assuming Brian and Sahid's intercom is in the same "hands-free" mode as Seif and Deezy's here.[/sblock]
OOC: Assume that it is... also assume that the intercoms current com channel are omnidirectional so that any one on the same network can hear any communications made on it.

"Valves open!" Brian says over the line. "Powering back up..." he rushes to re-engage the system now that all the alterations have been put in place.

Deezy sighed and looked down at her hands. She wasn't sure why Seif was being such a glum bean. They were in pressurized suits, surrounded by metal and old tech, trying to save lives! It was the perfect day! Things just didn't get any better, and even if the idea of breathing aether was scary, it was okay because they had the suits.

It seemed to her that Seif was spending so much time worrying about how things could go wrong in the future, he completely missed how awesomely they were going right, right now. No wonder he was sour, she decided. He needed something to cheer him up, and call his attention to how good things where at the moment. Once they got back to town, triumphant, she could look around to see if she could find something appropriate.

At Brian's words she tensed excitedly and looked at Seif, waiting for his signal.

Seif briefly looked at her as if she had sprouted a third head (and he was pondering the advantages)... Then a nod (and now she could see the crimp at the corner of his hard mouth, where before the veil would have hidden it): a satisfactory mutation. "Bringing the blowers up to full power."

<Response Deezy?>

<Assuming all goes well:
"Can you see any effects?"

<Response Brian/the Ottoman?>

The a loud electronic hum that is present in both of the rooms is quickly replaced the a loud continuous series of turbine blade thumps. As you stand and listen to the reassuring sounds of the turbine engines, you can't help but to notice that the temperature within the both chambers begin to drop as a result of the turbine blades and air blowers forcing the chill martian air through the complex's narrow airways and into the enclosed bunker.

Within the bunker's engine room, the effects of the exchange air air is almost immediate; as visible currents of aethery smoke could be seen flowing towards the room's exhaust ports and the bunker's many air vents.

Silverstone's cough can be heard over the intercom system, "Our detectors are indicating that Aether concentrations have dropped between 2.5 and 5%. We are saved."

Brian sighed in relief at the report from below.

"We're not out of the woods yet, though. We still need to get you folks out of there."

"Good work all," concluded the desert man. "Silverstone, start preparing yourselves: two people should accompany each that cannot walk, with the remaining able-bodied in front of the pack, led by your elder. Above all, when the times comes, steady steps, *no* running. We will signal you when the way is clear enough to advance."

He eyed the various pipes surrounded them, now carrying aether-laced, fast-flowing rivers of poisonous gas, and listened to the unguessable noises coming off the turbines running at full power. "Will this thing hold for the next hour, or should one of us remain to watch it?"

<Response Deezy?>

OOC: So the general plan is to wait a bit for the gas-choked region to clear and then move the people through.

Deezy squints an eye and peers at the pipes, trailing her hand along the largest one's smooth side. She traces them past valves and the controls that Seif set and shook her head.

"I don't see any fissures or anything. These bunkers were built to last. It should be okay. Oh wait."

She took one more look...

(OOC - Not sure what skill I should roll, so just let me know and I'll edit it right in here.)
