[M&M2e] Red Sands Chronicles

The Ottoman unsheathes his sword, and starts drawing on the sand. "We have a total of seven transportations. The heavy crawler should be in the middle, it's size represents an advantage, as people posted there would have a clear view of all the other crawlers. Hence I propose that anyone with projectile weapons should get on it. The medium crawlers should go, one in front and the other behind. The smaller crawlers must flank the bigger one, two at each side. Aeaxeos you should travel in the front crawler with me, Seif is our guide, he could take advantage of the higher position of the heavy crawler. The girl in the mecha, she could scout around, or be transported in the heavy crawler. For the rest of you, I need to know what is that you do." explains Sahid pointing sequentially at the boxes he has draw.

"For the rest of you, I need to know what is that you do." explains Sahid pointing sequentially at the boxes he has draw.

"Do?" Brian mutters from inside the Metal Beast. "I work in a factory. I'm not a soldier. But that does have me wondering. Um ... Deezy, how easy is it to get out of here if I need to? I'm afraid I might be a distraction to you if there actually is an ambush and you need to fight."

OOC: Hopefully not hamstringing anything here. Brian's just built to be secretive about his abilities (especially given the rash of mutant fear that persists. He isn't a mutant, but he imagines most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference), and he hasn't known anyone in the party long enough to trust them with his secret.

"Well then take a rifle. Or a sword if you like strong emotions." The Ottoman smiled a big grin. He looks at the more "civilian" members of the crew. "All of you, take a weapon and keep it close to you. If need arise, you must use it, and not hesitate. It is your life that is at stake."
Then, again to Brian. "You should take a close combat weapon, if someone gets to the cockpit of the mecha, you need to have something to protect your girlfriend."

"Aw, but I was going to have you balance the power load between the cores. The regulator's a bit glitchy still."

On seeing Brian's expression at the thought of actually trying to use his controls, she had to laugh. "It's easy," Deezy cheerfully chirps. "You just enter your access code, which right now is set to the default, and select 'unseal second pod,' and ' open second pod,' as soon as it..." she pauses, and with unusual empathy says, "...or I could do it. Here, one sec."

There was a hiss of equalizing pressure, and a brief tug of wind towards his feet. The pleasant, vaguely feminine voice of the onboard systems recited, 'Co-pilot's pod is depressurized.' Then, a moment later it added, 'Co-pilot's pod access door is open.'"

(OOC - Deez appears either not to have noticed the 'girlfriend' jab, or not to have gotten it, perhaps. Her attention was on explaining things to Brian. Also, though the Ottoman has no way of knowing this, the Beast hasn't got a cockpit that houses both people. It has two entirely separate pod-like chambers, so IC the Ottoman's suggestion makes sense, I just wanted to be sure things were clear OOC. :))

As you look at the map, you notice that one city is marked as being near that region, Elysium.

Seif notices the reaction all around. Even he can't help feeling his jaw muscles tighten, his breathing quicken by that slightest bit: mutants!

Lord Burroughmeister continues, "I suspect that Seif has already mapped out his route through the city, so our drivers might want to consult with him prior to our voyage, everyone else take your places in the caravan."

As a matter of fact, he *hadn't* -- nothing beyond a general 'head out' at least. "Trader's guild?" Seif asked. The most likely source of trouble.

Seif gestures to his beast, presently licking aether-laced diesel fuel from a sliced-off 45 gallon drum. "In the desert I will roam out front." His hard blue eyes look at Sahid and he gets the distinct feeling that it's not a question, and yet it is.

[sblock=OOC]So far:

Leading Camel: Seif al Mariam
Front Crawler (M): The Ottoman, Lifter01 in the back
Heavy Crawler: Aeaxeos, Deezy Klatta & The Beast in back, Overwatch Balloon
Back Crawler (M): Lifter02 in the back

Right buggiesX2:
Left BuggiesX2:

For the Balloon, and unless somebody (Brian? James?) wants to take on the job full time, I suggest a simple rotation amongst the entire crew of 21. By a strange coincidence, every time a roll is needed, it ends up being one of the PCs that's on guard duty ;). Who it is determined by our dear GM with the roll of 1d6 (1. Aeaxeos, 2. Brian, 3. Deezy, 4. James, 5. Sahid, 6. Seif). Acceptable? Working on building the thing as we speak (sort of, should be done today or tomorrow).

"My men in the Trader's Guild indicated that the caravan is located somewhere in the Phlegra Dorsa West of Hectate Tholsa."
Is this correct? On the map I have the Phlegras as quite a ways EAST of Hecates Thol. i.e. west of the Thol wouldn't be in the phlegras, more like Hrad Vale or the region around Mount Elysium (?).[/sblock]

OOC: inverted the order a bit since it felt right narratively. Don't think it insanely alters things, though I can change it back if there's a major objection

Brian sighs a bit easier. "Okay, yeah, that seems to not take long," he says. "I'll have to see if I can't figure out the buttons while we're riding. Thanks!"

For the moment, though, he crawls out to hear The Ottoman's continuing pronouncements.

Then, again to Brian. "You should take a close combat weapon, if someone gets to the cockpit of the mecha, you need to have something to protect your girlfriend."

Brian pulls his knife from his belt sheath and flips a concealed pistol from his jacket sleeve with practiced ease.

"I've lived here a while," he says. "No one goes around town without some protection if he doesn't want to wind up dead in a gutter. I'm used to these, so I'll stick with 'em for now. Pretty cramped in there as it is, so I don't think I'd be able to move a rifle around much, anyway.

"And I just met Deezy, so I wouldn't assume anything other than she's giving me a ride"
he says. "but I think she's pretty good at taking care of herself from the look of the beast, yeah?"

"Perhaps she is, perhaps. But there are many dangers in the deserts, and one is never sure of what sort of strange powers might an ambushing mutant display. Stay with her, I sense she will have need of you in the future. Trust this old man's words." The Ottoman offers.

OOC: Too many "guilds" and "unions" lol. So here are some clarifications (and common knowledge).

Lord Burroughmeister's "men in the trader's guild" should be "men in the Transportation Guild".

Trader's Guild = Sends caravan's outside and into Victoria Town for trade and wants to control all facets of commerce within the city. They own most airships in Victoria Town (exception being those operated by the Transportation Guild and the Union itself). They often lease airships from the Transportation Guild.

Transportation Guild/Union = Runs airships between all cities and is rumored to operate out of a "Mobile City". Tey are a neutral party and does not want to get overtly involved with politics in any city state.

Two airships were mentioned.

Assume that the first airship was leased (if not owned) by the Trader's Guild. Hence why they refused to help.

The second airship mentioned was owned by the Transportation Guild. They did not rescue the stranded caravan because they don't want to place all their ships traveling to and from Victoria Town at risk.

The spartan looks on as the arab explains his plan. Yes, that seems good. I am capable of both ranged and close combat. Position in front crawler seems appropriate.

OOC: I changed my speech color. The Dark Slate was too dark.

James had listened to the conversation with polite interest.
"I am better at shooting than at close combat, so I will take a position on the central vehicle then."
