[M&M2e] Red Sands Chronicles

"And taint my bloodline with that of the proletariat? I think not."
Not the shocked denial he was expecting then... Still, *that* got her an amused twinkle, as a reward. "Motivation enough to bring down nobility," he agreed, his eyes on hers.

Two men, a bound girl; she was courageous enough, you had to give her that.

Attached the the clock is a thin metalic box that is about two inches long. The box appears to have three panels. The first and the third panel appear to be covered in some sort of metallic grated mesh, while the center panel contains what appears to be multiple small beveled dials and knobs, an indicator gauge, what appears to be two flat slide button with three settings and push button.
'Not a weapon,' was Seif's conclusion. "Forgive," desert politeness, before he twisted the box around her wrist to peer at the indicator gauge.

[sblock=ooc]What units are on the indicator and/or the dials/buttons? I'll stick with my roll, in all fairness, but I'm hoping this can make Notice an acceptable Help Another skill in this case? Assuming there are any markings to begin with.[/sblock]

"Megahertz and kilohertz; volume and... vhf," whatever that was.

[sblock=OOC]What is the volume knob presently set at? Turn it to off if it isn't there already, please.

I love this sort of puzzle, by the way. :D too bad Seif isn't really the puzzle type <sigh>.

[Sblock=Deezy] I totally didn't think about this before.

Shayuri, according to metal beasts HUD's radar data, the patrol aerodynes are traveling at 100 mph. Deezy knows that the aerodynes Victoria Town uses are capable of reaching an airspeed of 250 mph (since she was hounded by them earlier in her travels). [/Sblock]

"I didn't have contact for long," Deezy comments over the secure channel, "But those aeros were going about a hundred miles an hour. Seems pretty fast to us, but it's less than half their top speed. Anyway, if we knew how big their patrol route was, we could work out how long it takes them to complete it once...assuming they go the same speed all the way around. That could let us slip through while they're off elsewhere."

"The problem is finding out what their route is without getting spotted."

Brian Shaughnessy

Brian frowns a moment.

"I'm not a fan of volunteering to walk into the blast furnace, but ... well, I'm pretty good at hiding, though hell if I know how I'd be able to keep up with them long enough to see the extent of the route."

Sahid looked confused at the device. Too many things had been invented in his lifetime, many of them remained mysterious for him (9 untrained).

Ah well. "A prisoner should not keep a radio on her person." That is clear enough. He unstrapped it from her wrist and closed the leather bracelet again around his own belt, standing up to do the binding. Why connect radio and clock together he had no idea.... Truly none. Perhaps Klatta would know.

Finishing his patting revealed an elegant multi-tool tucked into her duster's breast pocket, but nothing else. He put it aside for now.

«I figure the rest of her equipment was likely left at the roadblock, especially the weapons.

"The merchants are trying to dismantle the union! They seek anarchy, not order. The seek individualism, not collectivism. By abandoning our creed and foregoing the union's rules and bylaws the merchants are stating that they have the right of autonomy and that they can choose how and when they can do business. If they have their way, we will become a society of slaves. We will be indebted to the merchants who can set the prices of goods according to their own whims. The landlords will raise rent to point where we must decide to either starve to death or to pay room and board. Making matters worse overseers will have the ability to terminate a citizen's employment or lower their pay without explanation. Why, all because they are seeking to undo the protective regulative measures our fore-fathers set up to ensure that everyone in our city-state is safe, productive and without fear of loosing one's livelihood. The merchants are evil, evil people and they need to be stopped, at all costs." Lady Rasputina stated in an fanatical manner while revealing some of her preconditioned delusions.
"How are they doing this." That's what they want to know.

[sblock=OOC]Gods, I wish I was outside as well! If the caravan stops or significativeley slows down, Seif will go see what's happening. I gather this hasn't happened so far, right?[/sblock]

Knowledge Technology: 1d20+10=22 --> Success
[sblock=Deezy Techie Knowledge]Most Aerodynes have an effective range of between 500 to 650 miles depending on the quality of the aether/diesel mix and the quality of the engine. So if the patrol is following the route they will be forced to turn around in about 2 to 3 hours (assuming they don't fly straight towards an airship, Victoria Town, or Cassandraia.

OOC: Aether-diesel engines are extremely fuel efficient. Aerodynes use combustion engines while the crawlers and runners use the equivalent of hybrid-electric engines/motors.

Aeaxeos Civic Knowledge: 1d20+7=20 --> Success
[sblock=Aeaxeos Civic Knowledge]
The Treaty of Erebus of 361 After Cataclysm, the sphere of influence of each of the co-signing city states extends only 450 miles. This means that they are extremely limited in how far they can send out their patrols and their agents.

It should also be noted that in compliance to this treaty Aeaxeos was able to view a map of the various patrol routes that Victoria Town uses flies along a perimeter that is establish at a distance of about 150 miles from the city-state. The only patrols that fly outside that zone tend to follow each of the two main trade routes out of Victoria town or are airship based. The patrols tend to be sent out on each of the patrols every three to four hours.

Meanwhile
"A prisoner should not keep a radio on her person."

Shocked, Rasputina called out. "The only thing that works on that relic is the clock and no one knows how to make the rest of it work."

She fools no one.

. . . .

"How are they doing this."

"Why don't you ask Burroughmeister. "
She said defiantly. "He's the ringleader of the merchant's revolt, and it was his incompetent hasty decision to bypass Union protocols when authorizing that caravan that lead to it becoming stranded. Incompetent decisions like that was why the Great Martian Union was established. Without our order, Victoria Town would suffer the same fate as Elysium."

OOC: Unfortunately, the caravan hasn't slowed down since before entering into the ravine that lead into the canyon.
