The small party travels carefully up the trail. The trail seems well-used, with horse and wheel tracks. It winds through low hills and light forests. Higher mountains can be seen on the left (East), beyond which lies the sea.

In the late afternoon they have gone downhill quite a way and enter a fertile valley. Visible a couple miles away down the trail is a small moathouse. Even from this distance, it appears run-down. Some of the walls have crumbled. It appears to be on a river on the plain. Off the trail, there are scattered clumps of woodlands, but mostly tree-studded grasslands.

There are a couple hours until sunset. Your horses are with you.q

Looking at the fortified structure, and knowing that the party has no scout, Tor frowns in anticipation. He sees no other way to investigate than to march on in to the moathouse. A lone rider on the party's fastest horse might be able to get some information at reduced risk, but probably not enough to compensate for the risk of getting cut off... especially if the goblins have any of those wolf-things they sometimes ride.

From his position at the head of the party, he leads on towards the moathouse unless some other course is suggested.

The group moves forward, leaving the path, and trying to stay somewhat hidden from the moathouse's view. You are able to approach to a clump of trees about 100 feet East. You have noticed by now that a the river seems to flow right by the moathouse, forming a moat, at least on the South and East sides (the only sides you have been able to observe). There is a drawbridge on the South wall, which is in the down position, though you haven't been able to get an angle to see through to the inside. The SE corner of the structure has collapsed, and the rubble has spilled into the river/moat, though you'd still have to cross some river to get in that way. The rubble is about 10 foot high. The other walls appear to be in poor repair, crumbling and spotted with lichen. The structure is roughly a square, 100 feet on each side.

The whole place seems deserted. No smoke rises from within. The land around the moathouse (on the South and East, anyway) seems uncultivated. It was perhaps farmland, however, as there are no large trees near the structure. There are some bushes and stumps. A stealthy person could quite possibly approach undetected, even if there were someone watching.

It is about an hour until dark.

"Let's take advantage of the cover and fortify as best we can for the night. Does anyone have a shovel? A trench and barrier around our campsight could be of significant advantage."

Tor looks around for the best camping spot (survival +3.)

"Just decide something and let's go..." Irene says quite annoyed. "I'm not really looking forward to being outnumbered, surrounded and in the dark. So let's get going."

"I think it might be best to use the cover of approaching night to catch any goblins in there unawares." Tenebrynn offers.

"Night is little protection against goblins." Tor points out, knowing that almost anything sees as well or better than a human at night. "I very much expect to be outnumbered and surrounded soon, which is why I think we should fortify for the night. If you prefer to assault the moathouse and trust to luck, however, I am willing."
