M2: The Search for Goblin HQ

"I'm with Irene on this one, I think we should take them before they become aware of our presence." Tenebrynn says, ducking down when Somac motions everyone to get down.

"As long as we cannot tell if the inhabitabts are associates of the goblins or not, I would not be comfortable to assault the moathouse. But it seems likely that they are."

"Oh yeah, we're bound to find some friendlies here, as this area isn't known as to be infested with goblins and undead. Nah, that's just our bad luck that those ghouls crossed our path, and these guys over there had no such encounter at all." Irene bites at Ashnar quite annoyed. She looks at the Tor, who's eyes seem to drift away from the moathouse, thus she says:
"As we have to make a choice fast, I think it's best if we would all pay attention. We've gotten quite far today, it'll be dark soon, that moathouse is a good place to spend the night but those who occupy it now must be dealt with first. We're in good shape, we're ready to take them on, let's go!"

Irene casts Mage Armor and readies herself to run to the moathouse when the party does so as well.

Tor shrugs. "Clearly this lack of unity will defeat any plan we try to put into motion, and cannot be tolerated. I will follow any plan that someone is actually willing to act on decisively... even if it is a foolish one. Are you willing to at least let Nurlan scout the place out first, Irene, or should we charge in completely blind to any threats that may await?"

Ashnar looks at Irene confused.
"You have just repeated what I said. It is unlikely that they are friendly, and more likely that they are enemies. But its not impossible. If we attack, I'll be along."

Nurlan isn't particularly committed to one plan or another, but he doesn't like the bickering, especially as their arguing might attract enemy attention. So he decides to take matters into his own hands. "Right. I'll take a look, and then we can decide what to do."

He then moves, as secretly as he can manage, toward the house. Move Silently +3, Hide +3

Is Nurlan is heading directly towards the moathouse, or trying to scout around it? Much better cover would be available going around it. The cover leading up to it from the clump of trees where the party resides is scarce. Approaching the moathouse directly would lead Nurlan to the the river, about 15 feet wide at that point, across from a stone wall, about 20 feet high. There are two portions of the wall on the East which are crumbled. One at the SE corner, the other on the SE corner of a prominatory on the NE. Getting closer to these points might reveal whether the river is fordable there. The crumbled walls could probably be climbed, assuming the party could cross the river, though it would be slow and potentially dangerous. There is an open drawbridge on the South wall.

As the party watches Nurlan sneak off, feint clanks can be heard, persumably from the moathouse. It sounds like the hammering of a blacksmith.

He'll go around, looking for the best spots for hiding.

Nurlan finds it is not a quick trip around the moathouse. He moves slowly, pausing periodically to examine the fortress from a new angle. After traveling about 15 minutes, he and the others are convinced it is occupied. Now and then a bang or voice is heard. Occationally a head and shoulders can be seen walking along the parapets. Nurlan travels around clockwise, towards the drawbridge. After about 15 minutes, he can see across it. A well-traveled road leads to it, probably from the path from where the PCs came. It splits just before reaching the drawbridge. One road leading East, towards the Sea. The other mostly South, from whence the party has come.

On the other side of the drawbridge, there appears to be an overturned wagon, and various sacks, crates and barrels, forming a crude baracade. A fortified tower rises next to the drawbridge on the west. Arrow slits point down at the approach, although the SW corner of the tower has crumbled. Other arrow slits have been visible on the parapet that Nurlan has passed. The river seems to form a moat around the entire fortress. The banging is irregular, but seems to be coming from the area around the tower and drawbridge.

At this point, Nurlan realized that if he continues on a complete circle around the moathouse, he won't return to his companions until the sun has set. If he returned now, there might be half an hour of sunlight left.

Charlarn of Phyrah: Male human cleric 2

Charlarn keeps a watchful eye on the moathouse (Spot +3), especially near Nurlan. He has his crossbow loaded and ready to fire.

OOC: Sorry guys. I'll be able to post until Tuesday probably. If the party decides to go now, he'll cast his light orison on his shield or on something belonging to a front-line character.
