M2: The Search for Goblin HQ

More goblin slaves

When Thain asked for names, he was actually talking to the two humans captives, not the party :p

Both humans are visibly releaved at the party's presense. "Oh, you are a gift from the gods!" They rush forward and shake hands with everyone. Though their clothes are ragged, they seem in pretty good shape physically. Both are fairly young men, with dark hair and black eyes, as are the majority of Monemvassians.

"I am Philo" says the smaller one. "And this is Bombadill. We were guards on a caravan which was seized by these foul Jebli months ago. We were seriously outnumbered, and gave up without a fight, which may be why they spared our lives. We work hard here, but still get beaten regularly."

"Next time, I'll go down fighting!" adds Bombadill.

"I'll have some of that food, Rinaldo." Says Philo. Both dig into what ever is offered.

"We're both from Monemvassia. If you take us home, our families will be eternally grateful!"

After a bit of chatting and eating, they get on task.

"When will the goblin caravan return? Well. Let's see. Did they leave before that chicken escaped that we got beaten for?" Philo asks.

"No! That was Bole who beat us for that! And he always goes with the caravans." replies Bombadill.

"OK. It must have been two days ago, then, that they left. 48 hours or more. They usually leave a bit before sundown. In that case, they probably won't be back until the morning after next, so 32 hours, or more. But the goblins aren't always predictable. Usually it seems to be 3 days and 4 nights, but it's been shorter before. And definitely sometimes longer. And it's hard to know just how many will come back. Some go and don't return."

"Yeah, like that bastard Krange. Thank Hyrag he stayed on the island." interjects Bombadill.

"The rest of the Jebli live on some island. Sometimes new ones come here, and old ones leave. I think most of them like it here better."

"Can't imagine why. This place is a godforsaken garbageheap."

I'd actually prefer another player to take over Nurlan in periods when he cannot post. Perhaps it would be best done by one of the others who adventured with him before. Any volunteers?

"Nice to meet you."

"You're welcome to join us our journey. We're not going back to the city immediately. One of our friends may have been captured, so we're looking for her."

"That's good enough for me." Charlarn turns toward the rest of the party. We'll try looking for Irene in the dungeons first. Is that reasonable? And do we have enough time to regain our magic?"

OOC: I'm going to be away from Wed. night to Sunday night, too. Sorry.

"If we wait the 8 or more hours then they will have had the chance to prepare for our arrival, though they may already have given that we saw both the person in armor as well as the goblin that fled into the other tower. I am not sure that anywhere we choose to rest here would be safe from the possibility of an ambush." Tenebrynn says considering things.

-------------------

"An island you say? You wouldnt happen to know anything about where this island is, or what the goblins are upto would you?" Asks Nurlan, listening to Philo and Bombadil banter.

[ooc: I can cover Nurlan till orsal gets back.]

Philo and Bombadill don't really know anything about the island.

The last goblin fled the tower by the bridge along the wall. One would assume it is hiding somewhere in the the complex or fled into the wilds. The armored figure presumably fled into the dungeons, not a tower.

It's now about 7:30 pm and dark, the end of a hard day. Not that the party couldn't continue if they want.

If I were in the position of the cleric, after seeing the goblins slaughtered, I'd propably try to get the safety of those undead Thain mentioned, but keep Irene as a hostage for possible negotiations, to get out more safely. That reminds me...

"With my current remaining spells, I fear I would be of little use against the undead Thain mentioned. A blast of light to distract foes, a spell to light up the darkness, and a spell to sap the strength of a foe. If I could prepare a few new spells, I would be able to prepare a cantrip that is rather effective against them, though. Do any of you if the cleric created the creatures in the dungeon, or if he controls them somehow?"

(OOC Knowledge Arcana +7 and Religion +4 to find out what either answer means. Also, would my Mage Armor still be active now, and how long would it still last if that's the case?)

"Charlarn and Ashnar have used most of their spells. Many of us are wounded. We can't stay long, and we probably shouldn't stay at all. Charlarn, do you want us to help these three escape first, or do you see someplace where a short search might help Irene? My preference would be to retreat for now..."

Tor's voice drops, and he continues in a near whisper:

"...and to ambush the goblin caravan on its way back in."

Looking around to see if they are observed, Tor continues in a more normal voice.

"Did anyone see sign of struggle or mark of blood where we lost sight of Irene?"

"We have no master hunter among us, and the ones who knew a trick or two in that kind of things have seen nothing to help us to find her. As I said, we have not to waste time, but Irene may be safe as long as they find her usefull. Now, we must just hope she is into rationnal hands and not the captive of a twisted mind..."

Charlarn of Phyrah: Male human cleric 2

"Well, I think we should stay the night here. The room is defensible, and Thain, Philo, and Bombadill can go about their normal business. Plus they can warn us when the goblins come back. The cleric may have most of his prayers unused, so we'll be at a disadvantage. What say you?"

OOC: Charlarn will change his spells to:
Cleric Spells Prepared (4/3+1: save DC 13 + level):
0–detect magic, guidance (2), light;
1–bless, detect undead, hide from undead, sanctuary*.
