M2: The Search for Goblin HQ

"As much as I hate to say it, we'll have to leave then. Irene can handle herself. I swear by the Searcher, she has a knack for getting into trouble. But we're in no shape to fight more goblins and undead.
Ashnar grumbles in Draconic:
"I really don't like leaving Irene here after hearing that goblins like the taste of halfling flesh."
"I fear you are right, though.", he continues in Common "When would the goblins normally return?"

Tor is surprised to hear Ashnar speak in his grandfather's tongue.

In the same language:
"We can only hope that she is pursuing her own vengeance rather than having become the captive we at first assumed. I had not thought her power so great as to encompass invisibility charms, but perhaps I underestimated her. Even if the worst is true, though, we are of no use to her dead."

ooc: Nice change on how the spoiler tags work.

Ashnar, also a bit surprised that Tor understands Draconic, replies:
"Yes, that is what we should hope. And if not, we will do what we can to free her in time."

Nurlan first says to the dwarf, "You mention a human woman. Could you please describe her?"

Then to the draconic speakers he chimes in,
"
We ought at least to look around some more for her.
"

"Are you suggesting to leave Irene to her fate? I don't like the idea to meet more goblin, but I don't like to leave someone behind neither. And please, could you speak normally, I would like to take part to the discussion too, just that you looks like to decide what to do next without bothering to ask to the whole group... I feel like bargaining with two persons that try to make a disloyal deal."

"My apologies for speaking in the Draconic tongue, Master Rinaldo. I certainly agree that, if we still have the time to do so, to search for her. That was why I asked Master Thain about the time the remaining goblins would normally return."

Thain's eyes light up at the idea of leaving. "I'll go get my things!...er...anyone want to come with me? My quarters are in the northern wing there. The other two humans are probably there too. They might have a better idea when the convoy might return. I have a hard time keeping track of that stuff. Could be any day now, I think. The thing is, that they only travel at night. They usually arrive early to midmorning. It's just dark now, so we have at least 8 hours, maybe 32 or more."

"The woman is known as 'J'. She's a sneaky one. Don't trust her a'tall. Small, quick-witted, long reddish blond hair. You folks 'd probably think she was pretty."

"No one wants to leave Irene, Rinaldo. Even so, we can't allow ourselves to be caught between the hammer of the returning forces and the anvil of this fortress. By that route, we would see Irene soon... in the next world. If you see some way to find Irene without exploring this whole complex, I'd like to hear it."

Tor is somewhat chagrined at having earned Rinaldo's displeasure by speaking in Draconic. After all, he learned common so as to be able to speak to the people he met in the outside world. No sense in failing to use that hard-won skill. Draconic, though, was the language spoken in his own home...

Thain's statements place a new light on the situation. The threat would appear to be less imediate than Tor feared.

"Is this lady J near here? Perhaps we should visit with her before leaving."

After all, Irene may have disapeared in pursuit of Jezibel. Even if not, Jezibel might be a highly enough placed lieutenant that she could be traded for Irene.

"I ain't seen her for awhile. She may have gone with the caravan. Or may be off with some raiders. Or may be here somewhere. She don't hang out on the walls or the smith. You know, I'm almost finished fixing the drawbridge. If we're staying, maybe I should finish that. In case they arrive unexpectedly..."
