True. I would expect any DM will be able to figure out how the birds and bees work for his particular world...

(You'd also have to wonder how a medusa mates with a live male human...)

Well, thing is, in previous editions, medusae (and therefore maedar) were a lot more human. A medusa was just a woman with a petrifying gaze and snake hair - the 3rd edition version was what made them all scaly.

As such, let me advise a similiar reptilian makeover for our poor friend the maedar.

Demiurge out.

Transfer to Glyptar (Su): If a maedar reaches 0 hit points and remains conscious,
That's unlikely to happen. If you want to retain the "foreknowledge of his death"-aspect of this ability, I'd suggest giving the maedar the Diehard feat and changing the trigger for this ability to 0 or less hit points and remain conscious,.

Combat Expertise has Int 13 as a prerequisite.

Question: Wouldn't you have to submit monsters in the new stats block format?

Or is it that the new format still "so new" they don't care, yet; they'll simply convert it to the new format themselves.

thanks, that does make more sense, and i'll just bump up the Int score so it meets the minimum.

Answer: yes, actually we do (see our new article in this month's Dragon just to see that we can do it), but we'll switch it around to the new format once the stats are fully set.

Is that bass-ackwards? Yes.

Will that make it feel more comfortable and familiar for us, however? Hell yes.

Yeah, that's what I did for the latest monster article I wrote. Converted the traditional 3.5 statblock to the new version. Now, riddle me this: are they allowing you to keep treasure, organization and environment in the lines? Or do you need full paragraphs for that too? I swear, the MMIV-standard statblock sucks up wordcount like nobody's business...

Demiurge out.

well, judging by what they let us turn in for the article for #347, it seems like they prefer to have those lines in the actual stat block. :) we'll see what happens when the print copy is available though... which, i imagine, alzrius will have any day now. ;)

I haven't had much time to wade through this too deeply, but a few things I like so far:

  • "adamantine fists"
  • Diehard feat effect on transfer to glyptar
  • increased scaliness
