Mage Armor scaled up? or Where are the high-level abjurations?

As far as I can see there aren't any spells above 1st level that grant AC bonuses, except for things like Holy Aura that have the AC bonus as one of many other abilities. Where are the high-level AC bonus Abjurations?

Oh, and I know Mage Armor is listed as a Conjuration spell, but it really oughta be Abjuration, methinks. Anyway.

If Mage Armor, a 1st level spell, grants +4 AC for an hour per level, what would a 9th level Mage Armor do? +20 AC for an entire day? Or +40 AC for 1 minute per level?

Does anyone know where there are some high-level Abjurations listed, so I can have a good gauge for what they oughta be able to do?

No idea. It looks like high level abjurations are more concerned with making you outright impossible to even approach (prismatic thingies, repulsion), rather than making you hard to hit. I think an AC-booster spells that scales with level could be a nice idea. Something like "improved mage armor, raises AC by 1 point per level".

I think psionic powers might have had some higher-level stuff along these lines; maybe you can use that as inspiration, at least...

Improved Mage Armor

Not core, and not abjuration, but Unapproachable East has the spell "Improved Mage Armor"

Conjuration (Creation) [Force]
Sor/Wiz 3
Range: Touch
Duration: 1 minute/level

Provides an AC of +3 +1/2 levels, to a max of +8 10th level.
Material COmponent: tiny platinum shield worth at least 100gp

not goo al day round, but you can have mage armor up all day, and throw this up for the nasty fights.

I'm a little at a loss as to why WotC doesn't have more improved spells, ones that one cannot metamagic to hell.

Using the cleric AC in the DMG as a guide, you could have an improved mage armor as a 4th level spell, +8 to AC, and a greater mage armor as a 7th level spell, +12 to AC.
