Magic Item Book Recommendation

First Post
I'm finding myself continually in need a good book full of magic items. I generally prefer WoTC material, but they don't really have much as far as magical items are concerned.

I want a good spread of magic items, particularly less powerful ones (<30,000gp). With good random treasure tables. I like the PDF books, but I need something for when I'm running a game and need to place something so it needs to be available in book form (hardcover preferably).

Any suggestions and recommendations would be appreciated, thanks.

There is a forum in house rules about an item a day or somthing. It is more just the ideas and whatnot, but there are plentey of items in there. I agree tho. I think WoTC needs to make something like this.

I'd considered writing a book of just magic items. Alas, I haven't, so I'm not much help. But I'm glad to know that there's a market for such a thing. :)

Magic of Faerun has a fair amount of magic items, some of which are pretty cool. Apart from the DMG, I can't think of another WotC book that has more magic items in it than this one.

There are quite a lot of magic items in Relics & Rituals I (from Sword & Sorcery), but -- significantly, at least for me -- no prices. I don't know if they revised it to include prices (there were a lot of complaints about that aspect), and I don't have R&R II.

Green Ronin's Pocket Magica has all of the SRD magic items, as well as others from different sources, in one very handy (small) format. Not quite what you're after, but still a useful little book.

I'm sure there are others, but that's all that jumps to mind!

Despite it being 3.0, I still keep this one around. Having listings of all the items by GP makes it very convenient to assemble treasures and equip NPCs.

Some other nice magic item resources:

  • Arms & Armor - (esp 3.5 version) - a nice consolodation with some new items, though the focus on arms & armor should be apparent.
  • Spells & Magic
  • Forged in Magic
  • Complete Book of Eldritch Might
  • Relics & Rituals
  • Warcraft Magic & Mayhem
  • Advanced Gamemasters Guide - Pulls out all of the abilities from unique items in the DMG and makes them into item abilities. So if you want a crossbow of venom, et al., it's in their. Also has some neat materials, but many are very high end.
  • TheLe's Personal Artifacts and Synergy Artifacts and 17 items series of PDF supplements are nice if you want something a little more unusual.

Loot: a Field Guide

Okay, its made for the HARP game but if you don't mind converting things to d20, the book has a lot of creative items in it. Plus it has great discussion on the topic of loot and really does a great job of presenting interesting loot and covering the topic in a RPG. And it has Nodwick on the cover!! :D

This is what you are looking for. 3.0 or not, it has all of the SRD items and all of GR's stuff in one handy, little book.
