Magic Item Compendium: The Diablo II gems have made their way to D&D!

The idea is nice. Price is too low.

That said, abilities like Ghost Touch are probably over-priced in the DMG (if you are considering enchanting say a +5 weapon) - I'd prefer they were a flat additional cost, rather than an increase in the weapon plus.

+2 AC vs ranged for 500 gp? Nice but I am sure that the book will have even more powerf... interesting gems for armor.

I hate it when WotC gives out more power for nothing like here. This is a pure power creep.

Ditto. I can deal with, and generally like the power creep in the complete series (Note I do beleive there is power creep there) but with Incarnum, Bo9S, and now this book is just too much.

Optional. It's all optional. If you don't like it, don't use it. Greater Magic Weapon isn't a problem. It doesn't work. How do I know? Because it talks about the fact that they have to actually have that bonus. If they don't put in some sort of little disclaimer that specifically says that xyz doesn't work, I don't care. Why do people always need every tiny thing spelled out to such a ridiculous degree? Seriously. Only one gem can go into something. Sure, Truedeath is great for some characters. BUT, as long as you have it in, you don't have another one in. Who knows what else will be in that book? If you don't want things switched out so easy, change it. If you can't change the rules, that's your own fault. Stop complaining about every little thing.

That took the book from "buy on release date" to "thumb through and see how things are handled".

Not a fan of the gems, at least not as I see them being handled. But, if that's only five pages, no big deal.

10000 gp to be able to crit and SA undead probably is on the low side. Still, that's an issue with that particular item, as opposed to the concept in general.

Aw, man. I've been wanting something like this for years. I was not interested in the Magic Item Compendium before, and now I can't wait.

Yup. I figured the Compendium was an eventual buy, now I'm trying to figure out how it fits my budget.
