I'm baffled. How does the DMG (pg232) get the Ring Freedom of Movement to be only worth 40k? Can anyone explain that to me?

No clue. If one uses the formula for "use-activated or continuous" items, it should be 56,000 (spell lvl x caster lvl x 2,000), which seems about right to me. That is a VERY useful item.

I know -- and actually it's even MORE. Take your 56k and * 1.5 = 84000 via its duration being 10/min per level.

Well, note the price is unchanged from 3.0 (40,000 gp). Wasn't the effect of freedom of movement improved in 3.5 to protect against grappling? That may be what you guys are running into.
