Magic Item Weights for Small Characters?

Howdy!

When a small character, such as a gnome, wears an magical item such as a cloack of Elvenkind that the DMG lists as weighing 1 lb does the item shrink down to small size and reduce the weight for it becoming small? Or does it just shrink to fit better and keep the original weight?

I have looked and cannot find a concrete answer, which probably means I am missing something.

Thanks!

It would be reasonable to assume that, but the rules don't say that the weight is decreased.
I think that even if clothes became lighter, this should perhaps not be the case for items such as bags of holding, Heward's haversack, etc, which are (somehow) dependent on their size.

Since the weight for normal clothing, armor and other stuff is halved for small characters, it should be possible for magical clothing as well.

From the SRD: When an article of magic clothing or jewelry is discovered, most of the time size shouldn’t be an issue. Many magic
garments are made to be easily adjustable, or they adjust themselves magically to the wearer. Size should not keep characters
of various kinds from using magic items.

On the other hand, a cloak that can be worn by small and medium (or large) characters might have a fixed weight of 1 lb.
House rule alert: A custom made cloak only usable for small people might weigh only 0.5 lb.

I'd change the weight accordingly (as explained in the PHB).

Size altering magic does change the weight, too.

Bye
Thanee
