Magic item wish list?

Elf Witch

First Post
My character is now 17 level. She is a 2/courtier 15/fighter at this level what would be the minimum magic items needed to survive encounters?

The reason I am asking is up until this point I have not had any more than a ring of feather fall, +1 masterwork sword, ring of the ram, and a necklace that has a special sending spell that allows it to send to it's mate.

It was supposed to be a low magic campaign but as we got up in levels the paladin/cleric, druid, wizard and monk with his special abilities just totally out classed the scout and myself.

We found ourselves literally either not being able to keep up with the others as they went on encounters or knocked to zero HP and praying to stablize.

The DM to fix this has had the party find some magic items and wanted to know what would be on our wish list.

So I was wondering what would be good to wish for?

BTW does this happen in all low magic campaigns at high levels to the non magical characters?

You can't have a low magic campagn while keeping the spellcaster classes the same. Those classes are not low magic, not even close. So, I just think a mistake was made at the start of the campaign to allow this.

As for items, a goods sword or weapon, good armor. You can look in the DMG to see what the proper amount of stuff (gp value) is for your level and then flip to the magical item section and goto town.

Seconded.

You either need to pretty much get up to where the DMG says you need to be in wealth or change the casters. A "low magic" game with full level spellcasters isn't low magic, it just severely hampers the non-casters. We tried this once without realizing the consequences soon after 3E came out and the druid just blew everyone else away, no contest.

EDIT: Some basic items you might want are some kind of magical weapon, a magic shield and some armor, probably an amulet of natural armor or health, a cloak of resistance, and some boots of flying. Those are pretty basic.

I invented this item for a thread asking about taking 14th lvl characters to the Abyss - and it is too overpowered for me to use, but for a 17th char -

Cloak Of Elsewhere
displacement(lesser) teleport 2 per day, +10 Hide
25k + 36k + 15k, +36(multiple dissimlar powers cost) = 112k this is about 1/2 your wealth spend the rest on a nice sword. The upgrade to full displacement costs 64k unless you can talk your DM out of the multiple powers penalty, then it is -22k less.

Made by the queen of faerie out of woven moonbeams this cloak distorts the eye, and allows the wielder to bend space to his will. The cloak was orginally woven for a legendary hero who traveled into hell to rescue the soul of his beloved. The women inquestion was a faerie princess of course.

Ask the DM if you can have "super powers" instead of magical items. Maybe you want to be a really good sneak. Buy a cloak of elvenkind out of your pool of cash and write down "+5 competence bonus" next to your Hide skill.

That way you can keep it low-magic and still stay on par with the casting classes.

Yes, if the DM doesn't have a very good grasp on how magic influences the game and how to balance it, it's probably not the best idea to go low magic (especially not by just giving less treasure).

Some classes (i.e. Fighters ;)) are quite dependant on decent magic items, while others (i.e. Clerics) less so.

As for what items to ask for...

In general, as a Fighter, you want a decent magic weapon (at your level, that should be at least a +4 weapon), suit of armor (about +4) and maybe a shield (also around +4). Some additional protective items (i.e. ring of protection or amulet of natural armor (+2 to +4)), a cloak of resistance (+4 to +5) and ability boosts (belt of giant strength or amulet of health (+4 to +6)) are also good to have. And the boots of speed should not be forgotten, either.

Then it's always nice to have some utility stuff, something to heal (potions), turn invisible, or fly (also potions or wondrous items), or just some cool items, which could be fun or useful or whatever else comes to mind. :)

Bye
Thanee
