Magic items / Group level

My 10th level wizard has:

Headband of Intellect +4 - 16 000
Amulet of Health +4 - 16 000
Cloak of Arachnida - 14 000
Vest of Resistance +3 - 9 000
Gloves of Dexterity +2 - 4 000
Ring of Wizardry I - 20 000
Metamagic Rod, Lesser Empower - 9 000

I made the first five myself, found the ring and bought the rod. The character also has quite a few extra spells in her book and several additional books formerly the property of other (now sadly deceased) wizards. The party also has about 330 000gp in cash which we can't really find much to spend on at the moment.

Total monetary value: 198 000gp plus spell books.
Expected for a 10th level character: 49 000gp, according to the DMG page 135.

We are a bunch of munchkins, mind.

I consolidated the PC and NPC charts for wealth per level and call this the expected range.
a 6th PC has between 5.6k and 13 k in treasure and items.

A 6th level Fighters gear -
+ 1 weapon
+ 1 armor
either full plate or M.W. Str, composite bow
+ 1 cloak of reistance
a few potions

and a 6th lvl wizard
+ 2 headband of intellect
+ 1 cloak of reistance
a few potions and scrolls

PCs usually have an addtional minor magic item which brings them to the middle of the range.
by 7th level every player had a magical amulet, most made by the local druidess

The proper amount of magic items should have to do with what you, as the GM, expect the characters to face. If you hope to use lots of monsters that need a +1 to be hit, well, you need the characters to be prepared.
