I'm still developing elements for my Kaidan: a Japanese Ghost Story setting and have some thoughts regarding magic items. I've already created a category of magic items that somewhat resemble Weapons of Legacy, but consist of all types of worn items, wondrous items as well as weapons. A preview has already been posted describing these items with two samples... in Kaidan: Ancestral Relics.
Since Kaidan is intended to be a dark fantasy Japan-inspired horror setting, here are a couple ideas, though I haven't statted them out as magic items just yet. Researching ideas and putting them together as magic items...
Mask of the Noppera Bo - this demon created mask grants its wearer the ability to take on any facial disguise, to resemble any one seen by its wearer, originally created by a failing actor. The items is cursed however, as it steals the face of its wearer permanently, so that he resembles the ghost being called a 'Noppera Bo' or faceless ghost, no facial features whatsoever, more like the surface of an egg. Thus its wearer can never remove the mask nor show his own face (the mask prevents the wearer from appearing as his original face, as it has been consumed by the mask and nolonger exists.)
Comb of Hari Onaga - this woman's comb grants is user the power to lengthen their own hair and provide volume and sheen - women with long hair are considered the highest mark of beauty. Using this item every day for a week activates its power granting a permanent +4 to Charisma, though as with all Kaidan magic items, it includes a curse, though this one is a bit more powerful than most. Each night after the comb activates it attempts to dominate its user, if successful the user becomes a yokai, but only during night hours. She becomes a creature with animated hair that can attack and even form hooks to grasp/grapple those around it, eventually strangling them. The hair can elongate up to five times its normal length to reach out for victims. (not sure about this one, but it like the previous item is based on a type of yokai or ghost in Japan.)
Finally, another category of magic items, that generally consist of mundane crafted goods such as tools or items of clothing, called Tsukumo Gami. In old Japan it was believed that mundane crafted goods are endowed to some degree with the spirit and ki of its crafter. As a finished good, it also contains its own spirit. After a century of existence, since most mundane items do not survive such a lengthy period this is a rare thing, these item's spirits awaken, and becomes animate. In Kaidan, these items are considered of masterwork quality, and have inherent bonuses of enchanted as magic items, though they can still animate on their own.
Still doing research for more such bizarre magic items of Kaidan.

PS: Kaidan is a patronage project which requires patrons to help pay for as well as participate in its development. The budget is only at 68% at last count and there is only a week left to collect its funds and be greenlighted for final development. Kaidan needs more patrons - please consider becoming one... visit this link to learn more!
