...You cannot determine the exact creature types or positions of these creatures. In a group of life forces, you can sense a difference of 4 or more Hit Dice between one creature and another and can determine whether a life force is powered by positive or negative energy. (Undead creatures are powered by negative energy. Only sentient undead creatures have, or are, souls.)...
Does this mean that you cannot posess an unintelligent undead, or does it mean that when you posess the unintelligent undead there is no transferral of a soul to the Magic Jar?

Cannot possess any unintelligent undead. In fact, since you have to sense life forces to attack them and unintelligent undead don't have any, you cannot even sense them through the magic jar.

Soul =? Life force

The spell doesn't precisely say that...
-It says you can sense and attack any life force within range (and line of effect).
-It says that Undead are powered by negative energy.
-And it says that only sentient undead have, or are, souls.

It does not say that mindless undead lack a life force, merely a soul. Mindless undead are powered by negative energy, and that negative energy is powering something, so you might reasonably say that the something is a life force that lacks a soul.

Furthermore, the spell mentions that it is a soul that is transferred to the magic jar, and not a life force...

And here is when I went to check the wording of the spell in the SRD again, and saw that they do use "soul" and "life force" interchangably in the latter part of the spell description. Right, ok. Thanks shilsen!
