Magical Candies?

okay...now "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" is stuck in my head!

Toot Sweets, Toot Sweets!
The bonbon you blow on,
The whistle you eat!

Toot Sweets, Toot Sweets,
The eatable, tweetable treat!

the advantages could easily be balanced (imho) buy the fact that candy isn't to durable.

How is candy any less durable than a liquid potion? You keep potions in a bottle that won't break easily, right? So, you put candy in a tin that doesn't break easily (modern Altoids being a decent example). Hardly a drawback when compared to potions.

I think the price would be the simplest balance point to use, since that controls how many of the things the characters are likely to make or buy. Not being in your campaign, i don't think I have much good advice on details of pricing.

But here's a concept you might like ot use - the "Godiva vs Hershey" scenario. There are two types of magical candies - the cheap stuff and the expensive stuff. Expensive candies operate as suggested above, and are more expensive than a standard potion. Cheap candies activate in one to 10 rounds, at random, and are equal in price to your standard potion - you get to set them up a few rounds beforehand, but you don't know exactly when they'll start, which seems a decent balance to me.

and a third type...vile candy. "Crunchy Frog?"

New! Chocolate Crunchy Frog! If we took the bones out, it wouldn't be crunchy!

(If you have a Trader Joe's market near you, they have these green boxes of frog shaped Belgin chocolates with like... Poprocks or something in them. It actually says on the box "crunchy frogs". What a great prop! They are quite yummy as well.)

1.potions don't melt if left in your pocket on a hot day.

2.potions aren't devoured by ants if you leave them out.

3. nobody accidentally eats you potion thinking it was just a snack.

4. potions choke fewer children than candy.

o.k., i was really reaching for number 4 there but i had already typed in the number and i was too lazy to backspace over it.

Oooo. Brainstorm.

A small adventure in which a wizard accidently spills a group of potions in his lab but before he can return with a mop the ants get to it. Hilarity and violence ensues.
