Druid's Barrel: A barrel shaped cactus that produces water. It can punctured and drained for it's water. Of course, the water is of the purist kind. There is another plant that is almost identical, but produces lethal effects, however the liquid looks and tastes like green snot. Fort 18 or take 1D4 temp con damage. Survival or Kn: Nature 15 check. If harvested and turned into a water skin, the water will never go foul.

Desert Wisps: This very rare plant looks like gray ephemeral cloth that has gotten caught by rocks. It's mere presence increases the humidity of the surrounding region by 1%. It is rumored to be a plant that in the elemental plane of water, that somehow managed to adapt or be adapted to desert life. So much so that it cannot live anywhere else. It is worth 300 gp per plant, and it can be used for a cloth that gives 1 point of fire resistance. It is near extinction because of these properties. Kn: 20 check.

Porcupine Weed: These desert weeds grow hidden spikes (treat as caltrops) easy to notice once you know what it looks like. Survival 15 or Kn: Nature to notice or spot 18. Otherwise it's a spot 10 to see once you found out it's unpleasant properties. It can be sold for twice the price of caltrops and is half the weight (Prof: Herbalist or Prof: farmer 10 roll). Oddly enough these slow growing weeds can be found using detect magic, but no other uses for it has been found. (If cultivated treat as Profession: Farmer at x2 sp!)

Freshness: This looks kind of like a three leaf clover and only grows where there's water nearby. It has a peppery-mint flavor and refreshes the mouth. It fixes nitrogen like clover (not like anyone knows this), and makes a good salad.

Oo-Nook tree: This spiky leafed plant produces the desert nut which is a staple in this area. If you pick 100 of these nuts at midnight and squeeze out one dose of Oo-Nook oil, which can be used to detect magic. It will glow if placed on a magic item. Otherwise the Oo Nook nut is a desert staple. The Oo-Nook oil is 25 gp per dose.

OT: I was thinking, since Morris (the guy who runs this site) is going broke, I propose that we turn this into a PDF supplement for Morris. It will be called 101 magical plants. We can easily come up with 101 plants.

We first get our act together, then pitch it to Morris as a Morris PDF if he bites we continue.
1) We need an editor. The original poster has first refusal Arbiter of Wyrms. I'm next, since this is my idea. The editor puts out his email and organizes the manuscript. First is gathering the material, then is compiling it, re-writing it to fit and then sending it back to the writers who underline changes and sends it back to the editor who then accepts or rejects the changes, I figure that two rounds will be enough. We will use only the material that we have permission to use in exactly the form the author wants it to be. Every plant will get an author's byline (i.e. Steel Blossom by Warren Okuma).
2) We need someone who can do layout and PDF's.
3) We need someone who can do art. Just cover art (with lots of plants, labeled).
4) Anyone who contributes 10 plants is a writer, any less and you are a contributor. Contributors get a free PDF.
5) Swag! Morris get's 60% this is to save Morris, not to make us loose change. Okay, Editor gets a share, artists gets a share, layout gets a share, writers get a share.
6) Sales: I'm thinking that 101 plants (or more) that sell for two bucks will get sales of perhaps 50 units if that. PDF sales on this site is slow. Dice money, only for dice on sale. Maybe we will see a buck.
7) Warning: All plants in this PDF is fake. Any plant in the real world resembling these fictional plants has different properties, so don't be stupid.

Whaddaya say folks?

Back on topic:

Temperate:
Sarukinu: It's a rare Elvish mushroom, that looks like a big flat brown mushroom. It is very difficult to tell the difference between a Sarukinu and the poisonous mushroom. The Saru is a very meaty woodsy mushroom Survival or Nature DC 18 to find. It is sold for 10 gp each. It's magical properties give the eater a +1 ranks in diplomacy for the purposes of seduction for a period of 1D3+2 hours. The mushroom when picked will keep it's magical properties for seven sunrises, twelve if roots and all are harvested. Usually found in clusters of 1D6 plants. Druids merely harvest the top, and leave the roots so that they can grow again, and look poorly on those who harvest roots and may kill the offender if they repeat their crime.

Shadow Fruit: This weird black tree grows in the dark and is nourished by the dark, it kind of looks like a black pear tree and grows in temperate climates. It's black fruit is very delicious and filling. Ah, too bad it's not nutritious. Lots of fiber though. Believed from the demi plane of shadow. However roots, bark, blossoms, and fruit are used in the construction of darkness or stealth based magical items with a value of 1 gp per profession: Alchemy check. Larger trees may give a larger yield. Harvested trees or smaller trees may give little or no materials. Materials weigh one lb per gp. If the tree is killed it will yield 10 gp per point of the alchemy check. Druids and Rangers will kill the tree on sight or will insist on harvesting it to death as these trees are clearly unnatural.

Priakal Vine: This ordinary looking vine produces a very valuable sap worth 10 gp per pound, and is 100 doses per pound. If added to boiling water it produces an invigorating drink. This drink gives a +1 to spot and listen and Con checks for six hours. At night you need a Fort 10 to sleep or you will wake up fatigued.

Small Knowledge.

This is a class of small trees. Thought to be genetically related to the Tree of Knowledge, these smaller trees are only found in certain, special places of power. Attempts to get them to grow in other places have failed.

The trees contain small, cherry-sized fruit of varying colors. Whoever eats the fruit experiences an awareness boost. The effect is subtle, but can be increased by eating more of the fruit. However, no mortal can eat more than ten pieces of fruit without experiencing sensory overload that results in the person being incapacitated for half a day.

The awareness boost allows a person to aquire knowledge more quickly, increases abilities related to Spot Checks, Diplomacy, Item Creation etc... anything helped and related to increased awareness.

A final warning.

Knowledge is a blessing, but it can also be a curse. Many people are unaware of the benefits they enjoy by being comfortably unaware. Their friends might be shallow friends. Their co-workers might not be the team players the person think them to be. Consuming the fruit can result in up to a -4 Morale penality in certain circumstances. However, this is a short-term effect. In those cases where the person experiences a morale penality, the person also gains up to a +2 Wisdom after the two day morale penality. This bonus can last for up to a week.

Oh, and the fruit tastes like a tangy peace.

Enjoy.

Family tree
These Trees have large trunks for their size and an over developed scaring reaction when a branch is cut. Because of this a tree of at least 20 years in age if one of the main branches is cut will develop a large bulge and swell the trunk to a suitable size to make a small home. Care must be taken however to keep the cut section clear ona regularbasis for a door or it will heal over as well. This is especialy important in winter as several dead bears have been found trapped inside of trees after their winter hibernation.

Desert Candle
This desert shrub has waxy thick leaves similar to aloe in general shape but much flatter and broader without the gel like pulp in the center the leaves are tough and water proof and can be cut into strips and woven or used whole as bowls or spoons depending on size or brewed into a cure for atheltes foot!. The most notable portion of the plant is its long center stalk for its flower this light woody stalk makes excellent walking sticks(half standard weight) and the flower glows for up to a week after harvesting, the fruit is tasty too if you dont harvest the flower and instead let it grow to full ripeness.

This plant was created as a senior prank by the graduating class of the Central Thaumaturgic University 15 years ago. Planted at strategic places around campus it wreaked much havok on the Familiars of students and faculty, as well as campus pidgeons and squirrels.

Missletow resembles normal Mistletow (from which it was developed) but each leaf cluster will have 1 or 2 fleshy growths that look like human big toes. When it senses a tiny or smaller creature moving within it's range the plant will launch a toe missile at it. This attack deals no damage but acts as a strength 5 bullrush attempt and generally leads to loud screeches and thumps.

The Missletow cannot reproduce on its own and must be grown from cuttings. While you would think such an unnatural plant would be hated by Druids, most druids laugh themselves sick at the sight of the plant and several have mysteriously appeared in some sacred groves and druid woods.

I like the idea, but you probably shouldn't use that name since a lot of Ronin Arts products go by the formula "101 [Something]". I'm sure there's another name we can come up with.

I suggest we create a mailing list for all contributors, and circulate the manuscript and submissions via that list. That would allow all contributors to search for spelling and formatting mistakes, and give playtesting advice.

2) We need someone who can do layout and PDF's.

I'm brainstorming ideas for layout at the moment. If any contributors see a particular background, layout style or font that appeals to them, they should tell us.

5) Swag! Morris get's 60% this is to save Morris, not to make us loose change. Okay, Editor gets a share, artists gets a share, layout gets a share, writers get a share.

I recommend all proceeds go to Morrus (Sp?). The proceeds will not be enormous, so the authors, editors, etc won't be missing out on much.

8) Open Game Content
I recommend all content is released under the OGL.

9) Distribution
Do you have plans for which game stores you're going to sell this product at? Lulu's easy enough to do, but RPGNow requires you to be a publisher (which costs a hefty amount).
