D&D 5E Making a bard less reliant on magic?

Alternatively, I wouldn't mind a spellcasting Bard as much if their spell slots worked more like Warlock's. Always casting at the highest level, few spell slots, refreshes on a short rest.
It's pretty seamless to swap a class from standard spellcasting to warlock-style casting. They progress through the spell levels at the same rate, and neither offers blatantly more power than the other. Some people object to making healing magic available on short rest, but that's already possible with the multiclassing rules (and fighters can always heal themselves on a short rest) so I don't buy the objection.

I would have preferred something along these lines for the Bard, but I would have also preferred auras for Paladins.

The paladin does have smites, so if you want to play a pladin who is not a spellcaster you can just see your spell slots as numbers that indicate how often you can smite and never bother with casting spells.
Without losing much power just using that power ina diferent way.

I might have prefered if the bard and ranger also had these kind of class features powerd by spell sots for players who want to play a ranger or bard but don't like the feal of spellcasting wiggling your fingers and speaking arcane words.

To be fair, the ranger has Primeval Awareness, which is clearly supposed to serve this purpose. It just... isn't very good.
