Cleric 20. Its just that good (with the right domains).

Radiant Servant of Pelor (Comp Divine) is good for healing-types.
Contemplative is nice for extra domains.

Skip any PrC that costs you spellcasting levels. Its not worth it.

For Feats:

Extend Spell (gained via Planning domain if you want) --> Persistent Spell --> Divine Metamagic Persistent Spell.

My secret cleric trick is to take the elementat domains, like Fire and Earth. That way you can rebuke creatures with the fire or earth subtypes and they become your servants!

Pyrohydra, you are now my pet! And you can turn opposite elements...take that, air elemental, I've just destroyed you!

My dwarven cleric is awesome, except for the fact that I dipped into a non-spellcasting PrC >_<

At least I can sleep in my heavy armor. =D

But Contemplative is an excellent PrC. If you're more of a battle cleric take the Stormlord one. I don't know about Warpriest, haven't look it over enough to see if the hit to casting is worth it. Both are in Complete Divine. Good book for divine users if you look over the errors. I'm gald I finally got it though.

As for Feats: Practicised Spellcaster if you multiclass into a non-spell progression class, Extra Turning and Divine Feats.

dwarves rock as clerics, im in a campaign right now where the cleric PrCed into the scion of faith out of the UA, and its pretty spectacular. granted, the weapon is getting better, but after 10 levels, youve got a stellar weapon and 10 levels of divine spellcasting. also, there are some good PrC's in the complete divine, or if you want to run it more crooked, in the BoED, there are some templates you might want to apply, like Voluntary Poverty and/or Saint, crooked combinations, just the voluntary poverty thing is really lacking for magical stuff, but the pluses to stats are retardedly good.
the half angel template would be good too, it gives you sr and the like.

Depending on your style, there is a lot of flavors of clerics one can choose from. Some I've seen and/or played:

1. Uber-healer: Go for the Radiant Servant of Pelor. Also makes for a decent anti-undead type.
2. Necromancer: This is my personal favorite style of cleric. It is a bit weak on healing, but the ability to command undead can be extremely useful (skeleton, I command thee to go disarm that trap.... BOOOM!). Go straight cleric or aim for the True Necromancer. Lots of good stuff in Libris Mortis here.
3. Controller: A friend of mine did this - he went with I think Domination and one of the elemental domains. Also works well with 2 elemental domains. Take extra turning and just control, command, and turn things. Can also consider channeling negative energy so you can command undead too.
4. Divine Feats (this one might not work too well as you're after a caster). A trick I've seen used is to take a single cleric level to get the turning, then use the turn attempts to power divine feats. This can be very effective depending on what its combined with.

You didn't indicate what level you're planning on playing and which world. That can make a bit of difference sometimes for planning.

I think the most common mistake with Cleric is to not plan what kind of focus you will have.

There is nothing at all wrong with the standard generic cleric in heavy armor with 16 Wis, 14 Str, 14 Con, etc. but there are other reasonable options to consider...

Frex, a melee Cleric that is focused on buffing and utility spells does not require a high Wis. You could push up your Str and Con, and let you Wis be as low as 13 or even 12. Pick up a stat boosting item to keep your Wis high enough to cast those higher level spells and push it up with the leveling stat boosts.

Or you could go for spellcasting. Let you Str and Con be ~12. Wear Chain Shirt and depend on your d8 for HPs and the party to protect you. That gives you good mobility to get where you need to be. Keep you Wis very high. And consider a high Cha for those juicy Divince feats.

If you combine this advice with mine to take an elemental domain (earth) you can have a Dwarf that Rocks as a Rock Cleric. ;)

and if you take profession stoneworker, does that mean you could polymorph yourself without actually casting polymorph on yourself?
