It's not for clay, but if you're looking for 1" cubes you might want to look here http://www.hirstarts.com/index.html

I don't think there are molds for 1" cubes, but you shouldn't have any trouble finding molds to use for walls.

I haven't tried, but I've heard that dental plaster is *really* strong.

It's not a cheap alternative though.

Just an idea/alternative.

HIRST ARTS!

If you looking at making terrain, well, buildings and dungeons of any kind, please do check out Hirst Art (www.hirstarts.com)

There you will find molds that you can use pretty much forever, with cheap Plaster of Paris to create any dungeon, or if given the inclination, town or castel.

I am currently running RttToEE, and am running DL1 as a lead in, and I have already made about 1/2 of the "dungeon" using Hirst arts molds and blocks.

I have begun my preliminary design for the moathouse, and have some really cool idea's for the CRM's using HO Scale railroad track...

Check out the site, you'll get inspired.

Most of my terrain making experience is model railroad based. It's the most realistic stuff out there, but hardly durable enough for gaming.

Then again, how useful is detailed terrain for roleplaying games? I can see it for wargames...

And my wife has a recipe for peanut butter playdoh -- you play with it, then eat it! Seriously; it's pretty cool stuff.

A lot of the pieces in my campaign were created using Hirst Arts molds. Check out the sig.[/tooting own horn]

Someone mentioned that it is expensive to start - no question this is true. However, once you make it past the initial investment you can make a LOT of terrain from the stuff.

Pat E. - I would love to see some pics of that Moathouse when it's finished!

I used to run a campaign in a game store that had an in-house Warhammer league so I'd often go over to the terrain lockers and grab a few hills or some buildings when there was going to be a battle outside.

I also had the opportunity to run a convention game using several sets of Mastermaze terrain for my dungeon.

At another convention (Unlikely Allies), I ran a mini-module set on a boat and one of the other people running it made a large group of model boats (pretty simple really but good enough to get the point across).

All of those added a lot to the experience (although one thing I did discover was that my orc miniatures didn't quite fit in the Mastermaze hallway so I had to use goblins).

I don't know that terrain would add to every game (any particular game master or venue is bound to have a limited amount of terrain and if the game is limited to those terrain types, it will suffer somewhat). However, when it's available, terrrain (even not-very-detailed terrain) does IME add a lot to a game.

Moathouse: it'll get posted....

Pogre:

Have no fear, when I do finish the moathouse, it will probalby end up getting submited for HADD 5 over on void gamers.

My game ground moves INCREDIBLY slow, in fact, I got into terrain building to help keep my interest to a certain degree.

That said, the fact that we move so slowly gives me times to build the dungeon before they get there. As I'm not finished with DL1, I won't even start on the Moathouse for another 30-60 days, and I expect it to be a long process to build the whole thing, along with the dungeons...

I'll keep people here and at Hirst Arts posted.
