Map Folio : Useful?

I've only known one person to have purchased it; a good friend of mine. He was disappointed as soon as he opened it: light paper, nonsensical maps, not set to 1" grids, and no text/booklet of tips/cool stuff.

All the maps can be found on the WotC site for free... just print the ones you need in BnW, unless you've got cheap access to a colour laser or something.

Have anybody actually bought those Map Folio supplements? What kind of maps are in them. Are they useful?

I bought it and found it useful. I used three in a multi-level dungeon (just add monsters!). It's 10, and saves you printing costs. I've always had trouble printing the maps from the website, so this was a big help.

It varies. I've used some of them, and plan to use some more.

Others are plain awful. :(

I use them mainly as props to give to the players - treasure maps and the like. As such I think they're quite good.

Map Folio II are apparently all original maps... from the Wizards website:

Explore labyrinthine tunnels, a mysterious observatory, an imposing temple, and other intriguing locations with the aid of thirty-two full-color maps tucked inside. Whether used as inspiration for creating new adventures, as a handy reference during your game, or as a detailed handout to capture your players’ imagination, each map offers the promise of adventure, the threat of danger, and the allure of reward.

When combined, the maps in this folio create an exotic walled city built centuries ago by a mighty civilization. Perfectly suited for the coastline of any campaign world, this site is an ideal destination for explorers of the Eberron campaign setting’s continent of Xen’drik. Whether still populated by a thriving society, overrun with monsters, or hauntingly vacant, this colossal city holds countless secrets waiting to be uncovered.

These all-new maps are the second in a new series of materials created to help you add flavor and functionality to your D&D game.

Cheers!

Many of the maps from Map Folio I are the maps from the Wizards website Map-a-Week feature (and I heard a few are from 2E's Return to the Tomb of Horrors).

That said, they seemed nice enough, but although there were quite a few of them, they were quite specific in their local, which could limit usefulness. Likewise, the quality of the paper is marginal, and the fact that they aren't set to a 1-inch grid can be quite disappointing if you want to use them with miniatures.

Thank you guys.

So most of them are from the web site and not even have 1-inch grids ..... sounds like something I should avoid to pay for.
