Essembra (from Forgotten Realms, in Battledale), looking a bit better then in most of the maps that I've seen. Or at least, I hope so. It was done in a bit of a hurry, so it definately still has some rough spots though.
Anyway, enjoy
Nice map! The only thing that bugged me a little (apart from the size, of course ) is that fuzzy whitish line that seems to run through the forest on the west side of the village. It looks like you were trying to indicate that the village is located on a slight hill, by drawing contour lines and shading them. But instead of a step-like rise it just looks like a whisp of white smoke overlaid over the forest.
I love the variety of buildings you included, and the "organic" layout of the village. I would put some more of the yellowish grass / dust / mud around the buildings themselves. Maybe some wagon ruts in the main roads? And unless this is a community which is *very* in tune with nature, trees would probably be cut back further away from the houses (because of cutting trees for fuel, slash-and-burn farming, and extra protection against any wildlife or enemies coming out of the forest).
Thanks a lot Arravis. We felt, as you do, there are not a lot of good maps (especially town maps). We also see that a lot of third party publishers are beginning to use a lot of the campaign cartographer (which is a good program, but I like a little variety between my companies. I want to see a map and say "Wow. How did they do that!").
