D&D General Mapping A Bastion

Heretic of The Seventh Circle
So i used dungeon scrawl to map out the place that will belatedly become our bastion in my friend's campaign. I dont really map things usually, not in detail. I just give a layout and run exploration in scenes and give maps to fights that i feel need it.

But we all want to map the bastion and my dm wants to have us take a place from bandits that have taken over an ancient gnomish clanhold in the low mountain forest. The place is surrounded by giant redwood sized trees that have grown into a wall, with Lothlorian meets Kashyyk type walkways and platforms where the trunks diverge and jutting out the sides. The structure within that wall is three layered with a large courtyard, a second floor that is nestled into the hillside and a basement below it all.

The map isnt finished because the idea is the dm will finish it with surprises and then we will use our varied maps to buils the final version of the bastion, probably with a third floor built like another tier, atop and nestled a little further back.

Then i will commission some scenic art foe the whole thing once it is done.

So anyway here it is. Just sharing because i think it is cool and fun.

I will try to gwt a simple png or jpeg version tomorrow, but for now it opens with dungeon scrawl.

Or not. It says the file is attached but then it isnt there when i hit save. Ill post it when i habe paid for the program and can export properly i guess...

I'm planning on using a single bastion the party will share in my current campaign, but I'm hesitant to actually map it because they're designed to be constantly under construction.

I woukd be interested in seeing it. 5.5 campaign 2 will be using bastions.

I mean they only change every few levels, so it shouldn't be too hard.

Not sure what you mean by constantly under construction, though. We haven't used them in that context, for sure.

The players can swap stuff out every level if they want, although I don't expect that to be very common. I was more referencing time of construction.

A bastion starts with only 2 basic facilities, one of which is likely to be a bedroom. Most players are going to want to expand this, but lets ignore it for now. The bastion needs 2 Roomy facilities built by level 9, each of which takes 45 days. This means the party will be adventuring and gaining levels for 90 days while the bastion is under construction in preparation for level 9. Based on my experience in 2014 and the leveling so far in 2024, the party will likely be at or near level 9 by the time their bastion is ready after those 90 days. If the PC decides to upgrade a Roomy facility to Vast, this is another 75 days of construction. While there's more time between the next two special facilities, it looks like the bastion is going to be under construction more or less from the moment of inception to the PC's retirement (again, this is completely ignoring the PC wanting more basic facilities).

I'm guessing you're ignoring the "facility size" info in the DMG for this and just going with what feels interesting?

I'm curious what facilities your group expects the bastion will have?

I do like the background behind this and the map is certainly interesting!
