D&D General Mapping A Bastion

In my current 2024 game I just gave out the bastions recently. This was our first time using them. Two PCs are sharing one site and another three are sharing another. One site was the headquarters of a bandit gang that kidnapped a friend of one PC (that friend became their first bastion employee), and the other was a disused shop belonging to an NPC that they'd done a few jobs for. I provided basic maps for the two locations and told the players they could redesign them as needed; one of the players created detailed maps that included all of the locations within the various bastions. When they needed more room, they just added a cellar.

I haven't decided yet what to do when they gain more facilities at level 9; probably just have one of the adjacent buildings come into their possession (both bastions are in the middle of a large city).

I also haven't decided how I want to use the bastions in the game, but I imagine I'll integrate them into the story somehow. The last time I ran this campaign I had a gang of assassins target the townhouse the party was living in, so that's always an option.

Hell yeah. I love a good home base attack.

So we finally met up and discussed the map, and they all loved it. I had to cut the map into thirds in order to put it into DDB Maps, but thats fair since the largest third was stIll barely under the size limit.

We decided th the shadow whede the path meets the outer wall is because the entrances is either side of a huge tree like the paths through hollows in giant redwoods in Northern California.

The "20ft wall" is a matter of thw ring of trees that form the outer wall is from trees growing togegywr over time amd the trunks diverge around 20ft up, on average.

Dont know yet if the current villanous inhabitants know about the secret passages and rooms in the facility.

Overall, everyone loved it and is excited to fill in the spzces with facilities and personal touches. I am well pleased!

while bastions are cool, it's hard to implement them.
Either give ability to take Airship form from level 5 or mundane ship if it's island hopping setting or just give everyone genie warlock 1st level ability for free for their bastions.
just a magic ring that can summon your Bastion on any free space large enough once per Long rest.
