Mapping Software?

First Post
I've started using my laptop almost entirely for gaming sessions and I'm trying to get to be able to not have to bring any more hand drawn maps as well.

I'm looking for something to throw together maps with on the computer, mainly combat scale maps with a 5 foot grid. So far I've just been using adobe photoshop but it takes longer that I'd like it to - though the detail I can get is at least nice. All I really need is something that can piece together a floor plan and have some darker lines for walls.

Hi Dark Jester, I write ViewingDale which is a bit overkill for your needs. But if you have some internet access then there is a free page I host which you can use if you like. Its really simple though - might be a bit too simple for your needs but hey here it is :-

The idea is that you edit your map as a text file in notepad and upload that as a text file to the page and it turns it into a nicer looking map which you can screen save or perhaps fix up better in photoshop.

Something like this....

Free n easy... if you have a net connection.

You can do this without any internet if you install Perl. PM if you want to try it this way. I have just made the Perl script into a CGI which is run on the web page.

BTW: I have already posted that my CGI script is public domain. If anyone wants to take it and expand it a bit more (i.e. they know a bit of Perl voodoo) to add more symbols like doors, pits etc then get in touch and ill mail it over, but I'm not going to be a Perl tutor over it.
