Mapping software...

Looking for something that has grids, placable terrain and other objects. Mostly for outdoors, but indoors may come in handy as well.

I'm trying to run an DnD game on a message board and wanted to post links to maps that I'll upload. What's a good program to use?

Any ideas?

For indoor mapping there is interactive dungeon (theres a link in the EN World resource section). I have not used it, but I have heard it's good.

I must stress that the mapping aspect of ID is only 30% of the software's capabilities. You can also use it to run a game while mapping on the computer screen (all automatic with limit of sight, and triggered events such as monsters and traps), and that there is an integrated combat planner where you can zoom on the party location and make the fight with icons representing the PC's and their foes, with segment to segment progression. Great for 3rd Ed. with AoO and flanking.

Basically, ID replaces graph paper, a battle map, and minis.

Try this one, its great. There are so many functions that can be done with extreme ease. You will be cheating yourself if you dont at least try it out IMHO.

Seconded. DungeonCrafter is probably the best freeware indoor mapping program there is. The original is pretty good, and the alphas for the new version show a great deal of promise.
