Maps - Divisions and Distances

In general, I prefer maps with squares. Indoor maps need this because of putting it on the battlemat or allowing me to easily eyeball distances. Most indoor maps are built around typical human square-shaped dwellings, and putting the hex map on those makes the map too 'busy'. Caverns and stuff like that, though, sometimes can benefit from a hex overlay.

Outdoor maps - I like hexes slightly better, when I have to have an overlay, because they allow me to do distances better without bkealing out the ruler, but a square overlay allows me to quickly make detail maps since it's easier to 'blow up' a grid. The old Harn outdoor maps I liked best of all because they had both a hex and square overlay.
