Woops, wrong thread.
You got a quote or link of some kind? What is the name of the person you're referring to?The director of the 3D VTT project has said the exact opposite of what you claim.
Why even come out with a bizarre strawman like this? No-one has ever suggested the VTT would be needed for Beyond. Ever. The VTT will not be necessary for Beyond.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but without any kind of link, and just flying in the face what was suggested in earlier discussions, I'd like to know the details.

Where in the video did he make that clear? I've watched it before but never caught that.Kale Stutzman when they revealed the 3D VTT on that big One D&D product launch.
WotC have multiple times said that the VTT integrates Beyond. All the videos of people using the 3D VTT feature them using characters on Beyond IIRC.Your concept that WotC suggested these are integrated products is denied every single time they talk about it.
How long does it take you to draw an immersive 2d map? I think many DM will rely on using premade maps, similar to 2D.Cool visuals at what price to the DM. I tried out Talespire and it took me about 4 hours to just build an inn. Now I am sure with practise, I could get better but nothing in the experience convinced me that it was a worthwhile use of my time as a DM.
Roll20 is currently superior but it your style is more theatre of the mind and you do not need a grid it works.I'm not at the tier where I can test this, but how does it differ from say, Roll20, especially if you have the Beyond plugin?
The thing with 2d is that one does not really need an immersive map, it is more a reference for tactical positioning. With 3d the visual aspect of the map will become much more important. How long does it take you to draw an immersive 2d map? I think many DM will rely on using premade maps, similar to 2D.
I would really like the encounter tracker on the mobile app for DMing "At the table, with the mobile app". Still not there yet.
- At the table, pen-and-paper
- At the table, with the mobile app
- Using the 2D Maps feature here
- Using the 3D VTT feature in the future
- Using VTTs and other apps from other publishers
- Theatre of the mind or minis or tokens or . . . .
