"But! Follow only if you are men of valour. For the entrance to this cave is guarded by a creature so foul and cruel that no man yet has fought with it and lived! Bones of full fifty men lie strewn about its lair ... therefore brave knights if you do doubt your courage and your strength come no further, for death awaits you all with nasty pointy teeth!"

The Beast of Caerbannog acts as guardian for the Cave of Caerbannog (also known as the Cave of Wonders).
The beast appears as a harmless little white rabbit ...
Combat
The beast leaps at its foes biting and attacking.
Leap (Ex): The beast of Caerbannog can leap 30 feet and make a full attack. Treat this as a charge attack by the beast.
Improved Critical (Ex): The beast of Caerbannog threatens a critical on a roll of 18-20.
Throat-Rip (Ex): If the beast hits an opponent with a critical hit, it has ripped the foe's throat out. A creature struck must make a Fortitude save (DC 10 + damage dealt) or die. Even if the save is successful, the victim is immediately reduced to 0 hit points and begins dying.
A character killed in this fashion can still be returned to life with a resurrection spell, but not with raise dead.
Haste (Su): The beast is affected by a permanent haste spell. This grants the beast one extra partial action, either before or after its regular action. It also gives the beast a +4 bonus to its AC (already included in the stat block above). The beast loses the +4 AC bonus anytime it would lose its dodge bonus. The beast can jump one and one half times as far as normal.
Skills: The beast of Caerbannog receives a +4 racial bonus to Listen and Spot checks.
The Beast of Caerbannog appears in the movie Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail. The stat block above was done by Scott Greene and me for April Fool's day, 2001.
