I attempted to make my own Monk class, but was unhappy with it. I was stymied due to the fact that most of my “monk powers” where either identical or variations of the powers possessed by other classes. Instead I was struck by the idea that the class features of the monk could be converted into feats and then applied to whatever class you desired; and thereby, create a greater variety of unique “martial arts” styles.
Martial Artist Feats:
Heroic Tier Feats:
Living Weapon
Prerequisites: Toughness, STR 13
Benefit: Your unarmed attacks gain a weapon proficiency bonus of +2, inflict 1d6 damage, and gain the property of “Off-Hand” weapons. At 11th level the damage inflicted increases to 1d8 and at 21st level it increases to 1d10.
Flurry of Blows
Prerequisite: DEX 15
Benefit: If you take a -2 penalty to all your attack rolls you gain a damage bonus with unarmed attacks. At levels 1 to 10 this damage bonus is +2. At 11th level the damage bonus increases to +4 and at 21st level it increases to +6.
Zen Defense
Prerequisite: WIS 15
Benefit: You can add your Wisdom modifier as an AC bonus if you are wearing “cloth armor” type or none and carrying no more than a normal load.
Deflect Arrow
Prerequisite: Combat Reflexes, Living Weapon, Zen Defense
Benefit: As an immediate reaction you can block a single arrow, sling stone, crossbow bolt, or thrown weapon so long as you are aware of the attack and have one hand free. The ability can only be used once per round.
Slow Fall
Prerequisite: Zen Defense, Fast Movement, DEX 15
Benefit: You can ignore the damage inflicted of a fall from 10ft per 3 exp. levels.
Paragon Tier Feats
Purity of Body
Prerequisite: Zen Defense, Durability
Benefit: You are immune to all diseases except for supernatural and magical diseases.
Snatch Arrows
Prerequisite: Deflect Arrow
Benefit: When using the Deflect Arrows feat, you may catch the weapon instead of deflecting it. Thrown weapons can immediately be thrown back (standard melee attack) at the original attacker or kept for later use.
Still Mind
Prerequisite: Zen Defense, WIS 17
Benefit: +2 bonus to succeed on “charm” and “fear” saving throws.
Epic Tier Feats
Diamond Body
Prerequisites: Purity of Body
Benefit: You are immune to all types of poison
Quivering Palm
Prerequisites: Living Weapon
Benefit: When you make an unarmed melee attack, you can score a critical hit on a natural roll of 19 or 20.
Timeless Body
Prerequisites: Diamond Body, WIS 19
Benefit: You only need one quarter the food, water, and sleep you used to require. In appearance you are unchanging despite your age.
Tongue of the Sun and the Moon
Prerequisites: Timeless Body, WIS 21
Benefit: You can understand and be understood in any spoken language.
