Marvel Movies

Now, everyone has surely noticed the increase in superhero movies lately. e.g.(Spider-man, X-Men, X2, Daredevil, Hulk,...)

So which of these movies is the best? Do you like these movies?

I personally have loved all of these movies, but I've heard a lot of bad hype, I just wanted some opinions.

Can't give any opinion on the Hulk since that movie is not in theater yet.

Didn't see Daredevil but heard it is darker than what is portrayed in the comics.

Seen Spider-Man and Tobey Macguire actually made that role work. I like it enough to buy the DVD.

Seen X-Men and recently X2. Love the setup in the first film, including the X-Men going up against the Brotherhood led by Magneto, with the continuing anti-mutant sentiment being played out, which is part of the X-Men thematic element.

X2 kicked it up a notch with the mutants against humans, at least between X-Men (with Magneto and Mystique in an uneasy team-up) and Stryker's Group who kidnapped a few of the children from Xavier's School. Of course, the spotlight is focused on Wolverine trying to discover his past and how he came to have the claws. And there is a side story between the young mutant trio of Rogue, Iceman, and Pyro. Despite the appearance of many mutants including Kitty Pryde and Piotr/Colossus. It is not as exciting as the first film but still exciting. The big questions now are whether there will be a third film (production company say most likely) and will Bryan Singer direct it (he says most unlikely).

As for my personal assessment, Marvel superheroes are hot commodities in the big screen, while DC Comics struggles with only one current success albeit on the small TV screen (figuratively): Smallville.

So far, Marvel seems to be batting a thousand. I've liked all the recent movies I've seen; Spider-Man and the X-men films are some of my favorite movies, period. So, I continue to hold my breath and hope that Hulk and Punisher and the rest of the upcoming films do well.

I've seen just abvout everything. The worst of the lot was Daredevil, and that was fairly decent.

The best of the new bunch is, I think, Spider-Man, followed closely by X2. Both are very good movies, though Spider-Man explored the characters is more depth (easy, since there are a lot fewer of them,) and is better-acted across the board, IMO.

I'm leery of Hulk. We'll see. And I expect the Punisher to be outright bad, just like last time. The only way to do it well would be to handle the character just like the last limited series, and I can't see Hollywood committing the talent neccessary to write that screenplay to a mere comic-book movie. Such is my cynicism.

Actually, they followed the Frank Miller run of Daredevil pretty closely for both storyline and content. Even though it wasn't Spider-Man, I still highly recommend it.

Let's not forget, for several decades, Marvel couldn't get a decent movie made of their characters. It's only since X-men that marvel has had any well made versions of their characters (and I admit to having loved the Nicholas Hammond Spiderman TV series back in the 70s...but I make no claims as to it's quality). :)

I would probably rank Spiderman and X2 as equals, although Spiderman has far fewer characters, so they get much more depth. Tobey Macguire makes that movie, and it's his portrayl that elevates the whole film. X2, similarly, rests on Hugh Jackman's capable shoulders, and has a very talented cast to go with him, to boot. X2's only real weakness is that it has so many characters to cover.

The original X-men is a hair behind, hampered more by production issues, if anything. If there had never been another 'X' movie, I would have been well pleased with it. That I think that X2 is a better movie all around doesn't detract from it.

Blade is a fun romp, although I haven't seen it's sequel. Hulk could be pretty good, but I'm really not sure. I'm worried that it actually might be boring. Ang Lee is not a master of action films, although I consider him to be a fantastic director. The Punisher I'm completely neutral about, at this point. There's not enough to go on. Ghost Rider looks BAD, though.

So far I have enjoyed all of the modern marvel movies.

X-Men was well done and generally captured the feel of the various characters, even if some of them only felt to be side people.

Spider-Man was amazing. Easily supassing the original Batman movie. It captured the character perfectly.

Daredevil was... ok. It felt like they tried packing to much into one movie and therefore it felt rushed. Although despite that I enjoyed it and most likely will add it to my collection.

X2 was absolutly wonderful. Much like the Spider-Man movie it left me wanting more. Which is always a good sign for a movie to me. :)

The Hulk looks like it will be a very interesting movie. From the footage I have seen it looks to capture the Hulk even though they take some liberties. Which isn't exactly a bad thing. I don't see anything wrong with making modifications to the character or the story.

I think DC's biggest problem right now when it comes to movies is the fact they are trying to recreate both the Batman and Superman movie franchises. They both had 2 really good movies (Superman and Superman 2, Batman and Batman Retuns) and now should try focusing on other characters. DC has tons of other characters to pick from. I think the Flash would make an excellent movie. As would Firestorm and so many other characters.

Marvel seems more willing to branch out with other characters. I know there are rumors of a Iron Fist movie, a Fantastic Four, a Punisher, an Iron man and a few others. They aren't sticking with just a couple characters.

Well just needed to ramble on that for a moment. :)

The original Batman film has the single best performance in any superhero film. I'm talking about Jack, of course. :D

But of the recent crop, I've seen 'em all.

Spiderman - excellent, really fun, although I didn't think it needed the blood at the end, and I'm annoyed that that's forced a change in the way films are rated in the UK.

Daredevil - pretty good, but Colin Farrell annoyed me, and I thought the characters wire-fighting was too obvious. I can buy it for CTHD or the Matrix, but I thought the whole point of Daredevil was that he didn't have extreme powers?

Xmen - good film, too short.

Xmen2 - wonderful. Best of the bunch, by far, for me. Great acting throughout, great storyline, handled well, and a teaser that left me desperate to hear confirmation of the next film!

I've liked them all, especially Daredevil...but that's just because I'm a DD fanboy. :D

Spider-Man, though, was DEFINATLY the best. Toby Macguire is the perfect Peter Parker, and I can't wait for the sequel....

X-Men and X2 were great, even though there's NO ANGEL. Bah...blasphemy if you ask me.

Blade was definatly a good watch, though I haven't seen the sequel...heard they're making another...I'd be tempted to go see it. Funny that not many people remember Blade was a comic.

Hulk...hmm...I've never been a big Hulk fan...I really don't see much more they can do with it other than a lot of "Hulk smash!!"...but hey, that's Hulk...I'll at least go see it.

That's because it wasn't a terribly successful comic. IIRC, Blade started as a secondary character in Tomb of Dracula, during Marvel's 70's monster mash phase. He was one step removed from the Rocket Racer, at that point. (Bonus points if you even know who that is....:)).
