Fighter/ranger... think he uses 2 weapons, not sure

Assassin... i was very generouse in the last battle they fought, there was a rouge who had a bastard sword of sneekattack or somethin, its very cheap, but wont do much against undead...

A pally, uses sword and shield right now, but he might trade to a greatsword

And a monk....

well, a group a 5 PCs, 10th level with no cleric, against any one of this crew:

Darklady Dahlia Vhammos (clr 15/div 2)
Phultan Hammerwand (wiz 15) who is the guy with all the connections
Tebryn "shadowstalker" (Wiz3/ Rog8/Gld5) who is the man in charge of more open actions
ANd the twilight knight (pally9/blk5) assassin organizer

is going to be lunch! you'd have to give them a NPC cleric -scratch that- several NPC clerics just to survive! you may want to back the bad guys down to a level equal to the party, and keep in mind, the vampires will always have the tactical advantage (in a city where they live and the PCs don't).

even if you really want the party to take out Orbakh, handle it like the movies do. (movie characters take out much higher level bad guys all the time!)

-the final battle- the PCs have finally discovered the source of deaths plaguing Westgate. when they arrive on the scene, they find Orbakh completely absorbed in the ritual to fuel his negative energy device. they are immediately attacked by Orbakh's loyal servants and guards. after an epic battle with the forces of evil, the PCs learn that Orbakh himself is tied to the ritual and can't end it to face his enemies. when the PCs destroy the device, Orbakh's body crumbles to dust as it's consumed by his own ritual. Orbakh's final death ensures the Realms will be safe from his villainy for all time!

or something like that :D

In Heart of Nightfang Spire, the vampire Gulthias is using the heart of the dragon Ashardalon as his coffin. It radiates unholy energy that animates the mass of undead in the crypt. Perhaps you could use something like that i.e. some part of an extremely powerful yet deceased evil creature - demon, devil, dragon, vampire, lich, diety.
