Ranes
Adventurer
Hello.
I picked up a copy of Savage Species on Saturday and I’ve spent too much time since then trying to cope with all the ideas I keep getting. However, I came across something that puzzled me, almost as soon as I began reading the book. Now I’m wondering whether it’s a SS-specific rule, a 3.5 artifact (given that SS is written with 3.5 in mind), something I’m missing (my personal, favourite theory) or I’ve found an error (I’ve already found several of the typographical variety).
The issue relates to maximum skill ranks. A normal character’s maximum rank for a skill is class level +3 (PH, Ch3, p22). In SS, chapter two, it says a monster character’s maximum skill ranks are its class level +4 (SS, Ch1, p7).
Can someone please help dispel my confusion and, in so doing, cite the rule or rules that clear this up? I referred to the FAQ but found nothing that seemed to bear on this.
Thank you.
