Maximizing Sneak Attack [3.5]

What is the maximum number of sneak attack dice that a character can have by level 20?

Rogue 20: 10d6
Rogue 15/Invisible Blade 5: 11d6

If there are two more prestige classes that give sneak attack at odd levels, we can get:

Rogue 5/Invisible Blade 5/PrC1 5/PrC2 5: 12d6

Is that possible? Is there another way to get more sneak attack dice?

Maybe the Assassin? If you're talking about maximizing SA, there is a general feat in the Psionics Handbook (Precise Attack?) that let's you re-roll 1's that come up on a sneak attack. Pretty nice.

You may also consider the Exalted Strike feat from BoED. Against evil creatures, your sneak attacks become d8s and are considered good for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.

assassin prestrige class gives odd level sneak attack progression as well.

There are tons of third party prcs and even a few core classes that give sneak attacks on odd levels (ninjas, alternate assassin core classes, variant assassin/ninja/rogue prestige classes). The more you can pick up the more you can max out. Therefore theoretically 20 different classes would lead to 20 d6 sneak attack dice per blow. A bit of a nightmare getting all the classes approved for use and figuring out the PRC requirements to make it work.

There are some monsters who have sneak attacks as part of their abilities and you could use them as the base race, but the ECLs would probably be prohibitive.

What is BoED?

The Book of Exalted Deeds.

If you're playing in a Scarred Lands campaign, or your DM allows spells/magic items from such books, there's a magic weapon in Relics & Rituals called the Bloodfang Dagger- when used to Sneak Attack, it turns all of your d6's into d10's.

There was an assassin in my last campaign that would easily do 90-100 damage with every attack.

Then there's the ninja class in Rokugan, giving SA, and Rokugan has also a Feat (restricted to a single clan, though) that gives you another d6 Sneak Attack (can be taken 5 times afaik, or was it 3 times?)

Most of the ones I am familiar with have 3/4's BAB progression. So, it will be pretty hard to pile on PrC's that have a BAB requirement if you take 1 level in a bunch of classes. Of course, that fits with your assertion that figuring out PrC requirements will be a nightmare. Still, it is kind of an interesting concept. The character that doesn't hit very often (low BAB), but when he lines everything up just right and hits, it really hurts.

And don't forget the Leadership feat and rogue cohort with the same PrC.

Actually Bloodfang Dagger does quite a few other things as well. It is a must have for any rogue or asaatth.
