Maximum skill results?

well, I was responding to the claim that people were in real life "diplomatic" enough to make people kill themselves. In a single roll, they aren't.
Personally, if a player said to me, "I'm going to spend the next week talking to my mark and convince him the sky is green." I would still only have him make one roll to do it. Just because it's one roll doesn't mean it only takes one round. Likewise, "I'm going to spend the next week to convince the lich to give me his phylactery" would take 2 diplomacy rolls. One to make the lich give you the time of day. And one a week later to get his phylactery. Why are you assuming that a diplomacy roll takes a short period of time?

There is no survival tracking check high enough to know who passed a week ago when yesterday 30 head of cattle were driven over this road in the rain.

There is no survival tracking check high enough to track a small crawling creature over hard packed earth after 30 some horsemen and 30 some orcs battled over the ground the previous evening.

Oh, wait D&D is cinematic. So I guess it is possible.

I'll go with nithing is impossible given a high enough skill check.
