If you're skeptical of the rules book itself, I suggest checking out the free Beta PDF, robbing what you like from it, and not worrying too much about the RPG going forward. The adventures and stuff will be very familiar and easy to use even if you are sticking with straight 3.5.

Heh, being able to wantonly pillage from various sources has always been my favorite aspect of D20. I view D20 as a smörgåsbord.
