Mechalus/Aleer Favored Class?

Viktyr Gehrig

First Post
I'm thinking of using a modified form of the Mechalus/Aleerin from d20 Future in my D&D-in-Space setting, but I don't know how to represent their abilities.

I'm using the Gestalt rules, but I'd also like the setting to be accessible to people only using the Core rules.

I've decided that one half of their Favored Gestalt is Artificer, but what should the other half be? (I am amazingly flexible on base classes in WotC products, but far less so with non-WotC.)

And if they were to be used in a game which only used Core material, what should their Favored Class be? I'm thinking Wizard, to reflect their capacity with "technology" and "grafts". Or with Constructs.

For contrast, they created the Warforged during their warrior era, and Warforged are Fighter/Warmage. They still create new Warforged as assistants, workers, and soldiers, even though they're no longer trying to conquer their neighbors-- but they can't seem to change their martial mindset.

I can't combine Artificer with Wizard, because that's against my Gestalt House Rules-- and it doesn't really reflect a contrast within the race. I've tried to make it so every Favored Gestalt shows two sides of every racial stereotype's personality-- Bard and Artificer for Gnome, Ranger and Bard for Elf, Barbarian and Scout for Orc.

In Alternity, the mechalus were a warlike race who wiped out a sentient civilization early in their history, and have since become pacifist. They are inherently cybernetic. Artificier works, and maybe favored soul? Mechanical and spiritual.

For now, I've settled on the Noble class from the DLCS. It reflects their use of Diplomacy and their enhanced ability to cooperate-- their social side, despite their Charisma penalty. It's a nice balance with the object-oriented Artificer.

Thanks for replying!

Now the question is... how do I integrate golemtech without allowing everyone and their dog to have it?

It's probably not any better than any other magical item. (Golem tech, good name btw.) Have it use up item slots- a golem eye uses the glasses slot, a golem arm uses the ring or gloves slot, and so on. Have it cost extra because it can't really be stolen or disarmed easily. And you're good to go.

Look at Dragonstar, which had spellware, which is basically the same thing. I think theirs didn't take up item slots but was REALLY expensive.

You could also limit it by having the items cause damage to charisma when implanted, that can't be healed while the item still exists. What happens when your charisma hits 0?
