Question for you, Mr. Hal -

The Tarot Magic book - will it have an option for using Tarot cards to generate the magic/effects? Or is this all *in game* tarot use?

I have a couple of nifty Tarot decks, just itching to be used....

I am Mr Doug but I can answer:)

Great question! It actually has both. It offers some simple and fun ways to simply introduce Tarot into your game as well as a very, very nice alternative magic system that uses tarot in a logical way. There are over 100 new spells, most of which are unique.
The tarot reading section is cool too but I don't want to give too much away. I think many GMs and Players will use both the tarot magic use and tarot reading rules in their d20 games.

Oh now this should be cool. I hope, I mean I really hope, that you've tapped some people/person who actually has a good, strong, working knowledge of tarot use and whatnot (say the artist who used to be a telephone tarot reader, briefly). Okay, here's a test question (well, it's a real question, but I'm interested to see if it's understood): What deck are you basing the book on? I've started work about a dozen times over the years on a personalized tarot deck, but I never finish it. Shame too, decent money if the new agers like your deck. :)

Okay, second question (I hope this wasn't covered already, I didn't notice it in the thread yet): Will the book have a system for using a tarot deck like a spellbook/scroll? I think you said that the book will have a method for using the deck AS a magic system (which is cool), right?

Okay, now I have to go either draw a LOT of pictures and hope my lady allows me to spend money on RPG stuff this year, or find a kidney to sell. :)

I am not the expert and will have to ask the author to jump in. We wanted to be very original with the look of the major arcana so it will NOT look like the Ryder-Waite decks. I am not sure what deck the rules are based on. Again, I personally am not the tarot expert but the author is!

I will post some of the card art soon.

On question two, their is an entire magic system based around tarot cards that is very cool as well as great way to introduce tarot readings into your game.

I wouldn't claim to be nearly an expert myself, although the subject always gets some interest from me because of the truely odd background I can claim. :) You'd be just simply amazed at how little you really, really have to know to "be" a tarot reader these days. :P

Hope the author pokes his head in, I'd enjoy hearing his input on the project and all that. And preview art is always cool, who did the art on the Major Arcana, btw? (I'm hoping the artist did enough research to be aware of the tidal wave of symbolism requried to craft a deck, you can drown in it way too easily, hehe)

Love the MEG guys, always around to answer questions. :)

The art is being done as a unique deck but uses references to actual Tarot cards and he does understand major and minor Arcana after the author helped and sent him to websites for reference.

Hope that helps.

Much goodness there. :) Of course I hope you understand, I wasn't implying ineptness or anything. I'd hate for y'all to think I was shooting anyone down sight unseen. <g>

(Is it just me, or are we two pretty much carrying this thread? hehe)

We'll fill the bathtub with ice if you are in that much need :)

I take this to mean I should start adding another person to the staff incentive package of gaming material.

*chuckles*

The part that scares me is, I don't know if this is a joke or not. LOL

*dillegently goes back to the stack of sketches next to him*
