[MEG] Coming down the pipe---DUCK!!!!! and more 2003 information

WolvOrine,

I am the guy responsible for the Tarot Book. For many, many years I have wanted to use the tarot deck within the RPG. O finally grew impatient enough to write my own version.

In writing the book, I borrowed heavily on Dr. A. E. Waite's tarot deck because it is the most generically understood. I also used Eden Gray's interpretations of the major and minor arcana to guide me. There are also smatterings of the the Golden Dawn and others. What I then did was to incorporate fantasy RPG elements to the readings to deal with introducing the readings into a game situation.

I have tried to design the system to allow a GM to do a reading (if he or she is comfortbale) using a deck, d20 rolls, or a quick and easy read for those who are not as comfortable. To that end I have included info on 8 popular spreads (Celtic Cross, Tree of Life etc.).

Not to go into too much detail, but for the spell section, the different cards, both major and minor act as foci to enable the tarot mage to cast a number of spells (based on the readings).

Does that help somewhat?

It does actually, thanks a lot Zifar. :) Just curious, is it a casual interest (tarot), or do you read, yourself? A. E. Waite is fairly generic and widespread, yes, and you are (where?) more than likely best sticking with him. I'm looking forward to the book, and hoping that it doesn't get used just for ugly old gypsy women NPCs by the side of the road. hehehe

*wanders off cringing with the sudden thought of combining Summon Monster spells with the Major Arcana..oh dear gods..*

I used to read some in college, many years ago, but it was mainly for entertainment purposes. I would consider myself a casual aficionado of the cards. I am thinking about getting the Robin Wood with some interest because the art looks pretty cool. Have you heard anything about it? A few years back, I got a Chinese deck, the art is wonderful but the deck never seemed to work for me.

Ok, here is what should be coming back from the printers next week and being shipped immediately through the channels:

Foul Locales: Beyond the Walls
and
Necromancer's Legacy

So have this shipped through normal channels yet? I'm dying to combine Necromancer's Legacy with Secret College of Necromancy. (Throw in some Undead from AEG and Necromancy from Mongoose and you've got a party!)

It should be getting its way through as we speak, it left the printers last Friday/Monday----so you should see your copies soon!

Hmm, can't say I'm familiar with them off the top of my head. I kind of seperated myself from the tarot world after I quit doing the phone readings thing (now there was a crappy job). My father liked the Thoth deck when he used to read, and my partner has a Motherpeace deck (round cards, I never could shuffle that deck). The Thoth deck has an interesting look to it, I find the motherpeace deck just unbearably ugly.
I'll have to look into the Robin Wood deck, and maybe some chinese decks just to see what I think of the artwork though. :)

Release News??

Is there any further news on the release dates for the following?
I am very Anxiously awaiting these! ;)
