First Post
I'm starting work on a single shot adventure based on the MegaTokyo webcomic. I'm not entirely certain whether I'll be using Spycraft or D20 Modern rules yet, but I need some ideas for creating the pre-generated characters (in either set of rules)...

Piro, Largo, Dom, Ed, Ping and Junpei.

....that is insane....cool, but insane.

*looks to his NINJ4 hoodie that gets worn every day*

...hmmm...okay. I don't have Spycraft, but I do have d20 Modern. I can see Largo as a Smart(cough, pain, ow, noooo!) Hero branching into a Hacker style. Piro would probably be a Dedicated Hero. Junpei is most definatly a Strong/Fast/Tough/1337 NINJ4. Ping could be a construct of some sort..maybe Charismatic Hero? As for Ed and Dom...good question.

I used to work with Dom... I'll try and get him over here to assist.

So far though, he says to go with Spycraft, since he knows that better and can give advice.

In Modern...

In know Largo must be a Techie, I think, with all the robot-building sk1llz it implies.

And Ed, I think, has to be a Tough Hero and most likely a Daredevil... Especially considering his collateral damage accidents.

Coolness.

Fortunately, D20 Modern has its SRD online.

I'm undecided, because, while I think Spycraft has more potential for k3wl p0w3rz and l33t g34r, D20 Modern has a few class combinations that would fit the characters almost perfectly...

Largo: Smart/Techie
Ed: Tough/Daredevil
Junpei: Strong/Fast/Martial Artist

And so on...

Plus, the 'Urban Arcana' style setting would suit the style of the adventure and the comic (especially from Largo's point of view, "3V1L is everywhere!").

I'd love to see stats in both systems, though.

Depending on how closely you want to emulate the comic there is always the Anime SRD.
We'll need stats for a flapdoozy and a chibi killstick. :)
Giant turtle, angels, a few mecha... I could look up the damage a thrown object the size of a coffee-pot does, but I'm feeling lazy.
Junpei is obviously a martial artist. Ping is above and beyond any of D20M's robots thus far, at least in terms of complexity and AI. Erika obviously knows how to handle a gun.
Dom and Ed can both requisition equipment, funds and transportation on the spot from their respective organizations.
Megatokyo rocks so much it's power is beyond your understanding.

The most important thing: No matter how good the session is, apologize for how bad you think it sucks and how late it got done.

Interesting. I'll have to take a look at that over the next few days, but given that I've been playing Spycraft since it came out, I'll be a bit more useful in terms of Spycraft builds of MT characters.

Hey, the Shadowforce Archer line (which I'll dip into even with "standard" Spycraft due to the Martial Artist base class included in the Pan-Asian Collective book) is kind to the pulp as well. Although admittedly, the mystic and fringe options are much rougher on the character in SFA (though not as bad as Cthulhu).

Here are some suggestions to get you started:

Piro:
Would probably be best statted up as an NPC class, due to his inactive nature, but if pressed, you should build him as a low-level Snoop, with most of his skill points dedicated to Hobby (Video Games), Cultures, Languages and Hobby (Anime/Manga). His good stat should be Intelligence, with Dexterity as a dump stat. Possible feats include Fortunate, Ordinary Past, and Unlocked Potential (Hobby).

Largo:
Ah, here we get interesting. Largo is definitely a Snoop/Hacker (or Snoop/Oracle if you want to stay out of Shadowforce Archer), and has a splash into Soldier as well. Give him enough Snoop to gain the Jury-Rig class feature (level 3), enough Soldier that he can use a large weapon without hurting himself (level 1), and you have the beginnings of a competent Largo. His important skills are Computers, Hobby (Video Games), Escape Artist, Mechanics and Electronics. Pump up his Dexterity, Constitution and Intelligence, with his Charisma and Wisdom taking severe hits. Possible feats include Quick Healer, Personal Lieutenant, Jump Up, Grease Monkey and Mathematical Genius.

Me:
Don't listen to me on how to build this one. Trust me.

Okay, okay, fine.

Dom is a base Soldier, with enough Faceman for Cold Read and the Innuendo skill. For a low-level version, go with Soldier 3/Face 2, and build from there to include what you want. Suggested departments include Wetworks, Home Office, and Special Ops.

Possible feats include Alertness, Mark, Undermine, Mingling Basics, Quick Draw, Police Training, Urban Training, and Hard Core.

Use Constitution as your dump stat, with special care paid to Dexterity and Wisdom. Important skills are Intimidate, Surveillance, Cultures, Languages, Sense Motive, Innuendo, Listen, and Hide.

Ed:
Two builds, one "before", one "after".

"Before":
Ed is a Soldier who has moved into the Grunt prestige class. Recommended departments include anything from the Soldier/Wheelman book, as well as Wetworks and The Basement. Important skills are Craft (gunsmithing), Jump, and Intimidate. Concentrate his stats in the physical stats, making his mental stats suffer in exchange.

Possible feats include the Sniper feat tree, Quick Healer, Quick Draw, Too Ugly to Die, Stone Cold/Glint of Madness, Two-Weapon Fighting, Lightning Reflexes, and Hard Core.

"After":
Ed is a Soldier/Grunt who has... picked up an odd amount of Style feats. Keep his skills from before but buff his Charisma to ungodly heights (make sure to keep his Diplomacy and Bluff at 0), and replace a few of his feats with the following:

The Look, Fan Service, Gorgeous.

Ping:
Ping should be treated as an NPC, since she doesn't really work as a PC (remember, people play her). Not to mention the fact that she has Tick-level strength, meaning that it adjusts depending on how funny it is at the time. Change her skill points depending on what modules are installed.

In short, stat her up as if she was an intelligent monster. Wisdom low, Charisma above average, Intelligence high, Strength off the scale. Alternately, stat her up as if she was a suit of power armor (see Pan-Asian Collective).

Important feats to remember are Throwing Mastery, and Mingling.

Junpei:
There's a ninja prestige class in the Fixer/Pointman book. So, let's build straight for that, using the Martial Artist as a base, and a level or two of Fixer for the necessary skill points to hit Ninja, as well as procure and evasion. Make sure he has a ridiculously high Jump, while his Hide and Move Silently should naturally be high, and Hobby (Video Games) should be competing for skill points, along with a cross-class interest in Computers. Along those lines, his Strength and Dexterity should be high, with most of the rest of his stats being middling (with the possible exception of Wisdom). Suggested departments include Freelancer, Yakuza, and Wetworks.

Feats should look something like Stealthy, Martial Arts, Chi Strike, Iron Fist, Athletic, Safe House Armory, and Hard Core. Flesh out his Martial Arts feats as you see fit.

And that's it for now...

Tell me what you want the stats to look like (point buy? Arbitrarily assigned based on plot?) and what level you want people to be at and I'll be able to get more specific... until then!

Oh, and hi Dunjin!

Hrm... Those be emulated pretty easily with gear from the Modern Arms Guide.

Here's where the miracle of the D20 crops up... No matter what system I use I can pull stuff from somewhere else.

Giant turtle? We've got Dragon Turtles from D&D.

Angels? D&D.

Mecha? Super-sized D&D golems, or Star Wars walkers.

Robots? Star Wars assassin droid might work well for Ping.

Hmmm... I'll have to keep that in mind. I'll also have to include a sad girl in snow, and warn everybody that I'll be out of town for the nedxt episode, so Dom will be GMing next week's adventure using pipe-cleaner minatures.

In fact, I might just have to build pipe-cleaner minis for all the characters and baddies anyway.

No problem. I've played both Spycraft and D20M since their respective releases.

The only trouble is that I've only got the Spycraft Rulebook, and the Modern Arms Guide. One of my gamers has the SFA and PAC books, so I should be able to beg, borrow or steal them for a week or two... Otherwise, I've been meaning to pick them up, and they'd make great christmas presents.

I was thinking a low-level Pointman, with all his class skills and skill points sunk into Manga-related Hobbies, Knowledges and Japanese culture skills. He'd need Craft (anime/magna) maxed out as well, I think, and at least a few ranks in Computers.

Perfect. Wisdom, of course, is his dump stat.

Considering some of the Segasoft gear you pulled out of nowhere (a Black Ops minivan!), you might add in a level of Fixer for the Procure ability.

I can always use the the guidelines for building a Star Wars droid (there are some GREAT quirks we could toss in). There are a few assassin droid chassis that would suit her I think.

The other option... Make her a high level Physical Adept psion, and hand-wave the robot stuff. The precendent is a gadget suit worn by some bad guy in the Pan Asian Collective (I think), that not only can turn him invisible, but allows him to use a few Physical Adept abilities.

Junpei is another whom I could see having just enough Physical Adept levels to get extraordinary jumping and movement abilities.

The adventure aims to emulate the "Tokyo Police, Cataclysm Division" episodes... Lots of Giant Turtles, Zombies, and Alien Invaders.

I am completely unconcerned about keeping the PCs balanced. Abilities and levels should be appropriate to what the characters can and will do in the storylines.

You say somebody's name three times on these message boards and they appear out of thin air to give you a hand. Three hundred years ago, Morrus, Eric and Kevin would have been tried for witchcraft.

So true...so great. Hmmm...Cthulhu, Cthulhu, Cthulhu!!!

...curses! Nothing!

But now I'm sucked in...I must run a game like this. This is just too good to ignore.
